Ephesians 6:17a (Part 6)
Take the helmet of salvation,
The helmet in Latin is called a Galea which resembles a calyx, with the main function of protecting the flower while it is developing. In the same way, when a person puts their faith and trust in Jesus as Lord and Savior, one of the first armor given to him is the helmet of salvation which protects his mind while developing into a mature believer in Jesus Christ. The helmet is the most important piece of armor that a person can have because without it, with one blow to the head from the enemy, it could lead to being incapacitated, eventually spiritual death.
The blows from the demonic forces to your head would be false doctrine, lust, hopelessness that leads one to curse God in times of difficulty, but the hardest hit of all is to doubt your salvation in the Lord Jesus. If you have the helmet as you depend in the Lord, the spiritual damage is minimal. Imagine being unprotected not having the helmet on and Satan hits you with thoughts that you are not saved and that God has abandoned you, it will destroy you instantly. The believer will succumb to the lie and stop following Christ. Jesus said in John 10:28, “ I give them eternal life, and they will never perish—ever! No one will snatch them out of My hand.” If anyone ever tells you that you aren’t saved, that statement comes from Satan as an attack (blows) on your mind (head) so put on your helmet by remembering what the scripture promises in the Book of John 10:28. Do not believe the demonic lie because his very intent is to accuse you before God as found in Revelation 12:10 “Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: The salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of His Messiah have now come, because the accuser of our brothers has been thrown out: the one who accuses them before our God day and night.”
If you are living a lifestyle in sin, never repenting or having remorse and never seeking the Lord through His Word or prayer, then take it as a cue that the Lord is telling you to get saved by putting your faith in Jesus so that you may live a life of holiness in doing His will. The battlefield is in the mind of the believer. It must always be protected by putting on Christ through obedience of His Word and always repenting of your sins, making sure that you are right in the Lord’s eyes by the way you live. The question of demonic attack is not if they will come but when they come…We must be prepared.
