14 A woman named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth from the city of Thyatira, who worshiped God, was listening. The Lord opened her heart to pay attention to what was spoken by Paul. 15 After she and her household were baptized, she urged us, “If you consider me a believer in the Lord, come and stay at my house.” And she persuaded us.
A woman believed in Christ Jesus through the message (Good News) that Paul preached. The Lord opened up her mind to pay attention to the gospel. The Holy Spirit gave her understanding and saving faith to believe. When you’re preaching to someone and you feel that you’re getting nowhere, don’t get discouraged because it is the Holy Spirit who opens up the mind for understanding and without God doing so, no one can get saved. God opens up their minds when their heart is receptive so if they reject your message of Jesus, it is because their heart was hardened and have rejected Christ. No amount of persuasive words can soften a calloused heart but God alone.
