11 I am coming quickly. Hold on to what you have, so that no one takes your crown.
Crown here refers to one who overcomes or is victorious. The phrase “Hold on to what you have” means not to let anyone deceive you through a false gospel.
12 The victor: I will make him a pillar in the sanctuary of My God, and he will never go out again. I will write on him the name of My God and the name of the city of My God—the new Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God—and My new name.
“The victor” are those with true faith in Jesus who overcame the lust and desires of this world.
The phrase “I will make him a pillar in the sanctuary of My God” means that no believer will ever have the possibility to lose their place in the new earth but will be with the Lord forever.
Having God’s name and His city written on us refers that we have access to His presence and His new home will be ours (Revelation 21:1-3) as well.
13 “Anyone who has an ear should listen to what the Spirit says to the churches.
The letters or the Book of Revelation that the churches are receiving are very important.
14 “Write to the angel of the church in Laodicea:
“The Amen, the faithful and true Witness, the Originator of God’s creation says:
The keywords: “The Amen, the faithful and true Witness” all refer to Jesus and conclude that all creation came into existence because of Him (John 1:3, Colossians 1:16).
15 I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish that you were cold or hot.
The church members in Laodicea were compromising their faith in Jesus Christ.
Hot or cold refers to a person’s decision to either obey the Lord or reject His Word. God detests a person who plays both sides.
