Cookie a day: Not Even The Gates Of Hell Can Destroy Your Faith

18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the forces of Hades will not overpower it.

 Matthew 16:18

The spreading of the gospel by the apostles was going to be empowered by the Holy Spirit. Whoever received the message and believed in Jesus Christ, the root of the believers’ faith was going to be so deep that it is impossible for the forces of hell to uproot a true Christian’s faith by any means.

  1. “because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world” – For this reason, any outside force can try to cause destruction but since the Holy Spirit indwells the believer, he/she will overcome.

  2. Hi Spaniard,

    Thank you for this cookie.

The forces of evil cannot (in the final analysis) triumph over the force of compassion, healing mercy and loving-kindness. Greater is the Spirit of compassion than the forces of hades. Jesus is the compassionate One and he has triumphed over evil and death through his death and “resurrection”.

Buddha is another one who showed compassion and loving-kindness but only Jesus “rose” from the dead.

    1. I’m glad you liked the Cookie but you misunderstood what I wrote and what the verse says. Your words sound like “New Age” doctrine, you said, “The forces of evil cannot (in the final analysis) triumph over the force of compassion, healing mercy and loving-kindness.” Force of compassion? what language is that, that is foreign to scripture. Jesus triumphed over Satan because He is God.

Now you are comparing Buddha with Jesus who worshiped demonic spirits by seeking peace by other means other than Christ. Jesus is the prince of peace. Without Jesus there is no peace in the heart of the person.

The reason why you are so way out there with your understanding of who Jesus is is because you have rejected the Word of God, holy scripture.

  3. Hi Spaniard,

There is nothing “new age” in what I believe. The forces of evil are personal, relational and social as are the forces of the Good. Jesus is the personification of the goodness of the eternal God, and he is this, manifest in our humanity.

I don’t reject the Word of God (Jesus Christ) but only the way the bible is interpreted by many Fundamentalists.

I think that I have been mistaken in that I have proceeded with a theology and then interpreted the bible in the light of that theology, instead of exegeting the scripture first and then developing the theology out of the exegesis.

    1. John, the only way you are going to know scripture if you put your faith in Jesus Christ and give 100 percent of your life to Him.

If you reject the literal interpretation of scripture then how can you follow it, you will be lead by emotion instead of God’s Word. Fundamentalists are Christians who take the Bible literally and Jesus first coming and all the prophecies concerning Him were fulfilled literally because that’s how you interpret scripture.

I think your problem is taking the Bible for what it truly says and you don’t like it so you have to interpret it through your emotions. That type of interpretation is keeping lost.
