Biblical Q&A: A Question On The Tactics Of Satan And Can He Use Loneliness To Attack Us

God’s Warrior asks:

1). My question is in regards to combating Satan’s tactics. Particularly for me, I want to know how to become aware of Satan’s tactics; whether through people or situations.

2). Can Satan use our loneliness and separation from others to prey upon our weaknesses?

Thank you for your questions, I hope my answer(s) help.

Satan will use whatever works best in making you stumble either with people, especially those closest to you or any given situation. I will show you some examples in scripture of both.

Luke 22:1-6

The Festival of Unleavened Bread, which is called Passover, was drawing near. 2 The chief priests and the scribes were looking for a way to put Him to death, because they were afraid of the people.
3 Then Satan entered Judas, called Iscariot, who was numbered among the Twelve. 4 He went away and discussed with the chief priests and temple police how he could hand Him over to them. 5 They were glad and agreed to give him silver. 6 So he accepted the offer and started looking for a good opportunity to betray Him to them when the crowd was not present.

Judas Iscariot who was in Jesus’ inner-circle and a disciple betrayed Him.

2 Corinthians 11:24-27

24 Five times I received 39 lashes from Jews.
25 Three times I was beaten with rods by the Romans.
Once I was stoned by my enemies.
Three times I was shipwrecked.
I have spent a night and a day
in the open sea.
26 On frequent journeys, I faced
dangers from rivers,
dangers from robbers,
dangers from my own people,
dangers from the Gentiles,
dangers in the city,
dangers in the open country,
dangers on the sea,
and dangers among false brothers;
27 labor and hardship,
many sleepless nights, hunger and thirst,
often without food, cold, and lacking clothing.

Satan used these situations to destroy Paul’s faith which he failed to do.

The first thing you have to do and this is essential, is to put on the full armor of God (Ephesians 6:11). What is the full armor of God? It is the Lord Jesus Christ as seen in Romans 13:14 which says, 14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no plans to satisfy the fleshly desires.

By putting on the armor of God it means that you are depending on God’s strength, not yours.

Ephesians 6:10 Finally, be strengthened by the Lord and by His vast strength.

In verse 11 it says, 11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can stand against the tactics of the Devil.

The only way we are going to defeat Satan’s tactics is by relying on Jesus Christ’s strength.

For an in-depth study of each piece of armor click on the link “The Full Armor of God Series”

How do we put on Christ? We put Him on through reading His Word every day which will transform our mind to that of Christ (Romans 12:2). When we have the mind of Christ to know His will and what pleases Him it will be more difficult for demons to deceive us or tempt us to sin. Prayer is as important as ready God’s Word because it builds our faith in Christ as seen in Jude 1:20 which says, But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit

When we are in God’s Word we will be aware of Satan’s schemes and traps because scripture will reveal how he works and the Holy Spirit will warn us of danger. In 2 Corinthians 2:9-11 it says, 9 I wrote for this purpose: to test your character to see if you are obedient in everything. 10 If you forgive anyone, I do too. For what I have forgiven—if I have forgiven anything—it is for you in the presence of Christ. 11 I have done this so that we may not be taken advantage of by Satan. For we are not ignorant of his schemes.

By being obedient to God’s Word we won’t fall into Satan’s traps that he has set before us because we will be fully aware of his schemes and God will protect us from his flaming arrows through the armor of God (shield). Satan’s tactics are mostly temptations and for those who don’t know scripture well, deception through false religion.

If we walk according to the Spirit of God we will not give into our fleshly desires because our spiritual inner-man will be strengthened and our flesh will be weak so that we would overpower our desires to sin and instead do God’s will.

Galatians 5:16-18

16 I say then, walk by the Spirit and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. 17 For the flesh desires what is against the Spirit, and the Spirit desires what is against the flesh; these are opposed to each other, so that you don’t do what you want. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

The 2nd question which is: 2). Can Satan use our loneliness and separation from others to prey upon our weaknesses?

When a Christian starts to feel lonely and doesn’t deal with it quickly it can turn into depression which will start to eat away your faith in Christ. The longer you take the further you start to drift away from the Lord. A perfect illustration of this is Elijah who thought that he was the only prophet alive because of Ahab’s wife Jezebel. She heavily was on Baal worship and cause all Israel to abandon the Lord. Elijah thought that he was the only one who trusted in the Lord but the Lord told him that He had 7,000 who did not bow down or kiss Baal (a sign of worship). Satan made Elijah believe that he was all alone even though the Lord was with him. Satan’s goal is to take your focus away from Jesus and put it on your situation so that your faith gets weakened.

1 Kings 19:10

He replied, “I have been very zealous for the LORD God of Hosts, but the Israelites have abandoned Your covenant, torn down Your altars, and killed Your prophets with the sword. I alone am left, and they are looking for me to take my life.”

Elijah, thinking he was all alone, didn’t even stop to think that the Lord was with him. The reason why was because Satan took his eyes away from God and put his focus on his situation instead. So now he feared Jezebel who was hunting him down to kill him. Elijah just finished winning a battle against the false prophets who worshiped Baal yet a woman made him run for his life. Why? Because he felt alone and didn’t take it to God so Satan used it against him.

Remember, any struggle that you might have, the enemy will always explore to find a way to destroy your faith in Jesus Christ. Stay in the Word and prayer daily, eat your spiritual food so that you may be found strong in the day of battle. Your confrontation with demons is not “if” but “when”, so be ready.

Verse By Verse Through Revelation (8:6-10)

6 And the seven angels who had the seven trumpets prepared to blow them.

The terrifying events are about to start with the blowing of the trumpets that are going to make men’s heart melt in fear.

7 The first angel blew his trumpet, and hail and fire, mixed with blood, were hurled to the earth. So a third of the earth was burned up, a third of the trees were burned up, and all the green grass was burned up.

The first trumpet is blown and death rains down on humanity. The phrase “hail and fire, mixed with blood” refers to chunks of ice and burning sulfur (Ezekiel 38:22) that comes down and causes great destruction, destroying 1/3 of nature. The blood could refer to the death of countless of people who chose darkness rather than the light (Psalms 11:6).

8 The second angel blew his trumpet, and something like a great mountain ablaze with fire was hurled into the sea. So a third of the sea became blood,

The phrase “great mountain ablaze with fire” may refer to a huge volcano that erupts and half of it breaks off and slides into the sea or a gigantic meteorite comes from space and strikes the sea.

9 a third of the living creatures in the sea died, and a third of the ships were destroyed.

A third of all kinds of fish and creatures in the sea will perish from a poisonous substance that emits from the huge mountain. It will also cause a massive tsunami wave that will destroy any ship that’s out at the time that it hits the water.

10 The third angel blew his trumpet, and a great star, blazing like a torch, fell from heaven. It fell on a third of the rivers and springs of water.

Now the third trumpet unleashes a judgment that brings another meteorite but this time it will strike the drinking water for mankind.

Rebuking A Wayward Christian Is The Most Loving Thing You Can Do

repent tom and jerry

James 5:19-20

19 My brothers, if any among you strays from the truth, and someone turns him back, 20 let him know that whoever turns a sinner from the error of his way will save his life from death and cover a multitude of sins.

If a Christian starts abandoning the truth by going in its opposite direction we as a family of believers must bring him or her back to the truth.

Keyword: the truth

You cannot bring a Christian back to the Lord by compromising the truth for the sake of not hurting his/her feelings. The truth has to be at the forefront but it has to be with graciousness and humility.

When a believer is walking away from the truth and you try to show them their errors, even with grace, they will take your action as judgmental and mean spirited. Why? Because the person’s inner-man is severely weakened. Remember, our job is, to tell the truth regardless if it hurts them. You cannot be more loving than when you tell someone the truth and the Holy Spirit will take the truth and start to convict them.

In the Psalms, David talks about this which is found in Psalm 141:5 which says,

5 Let the righteous one strike me
it is an act of faithful love;
let him rebuke me
it is oil for my head;
let me not refuse it.
Even now my prayer is against
the evil acts of the wicked.

Here, we see that the word “rebuke” which gives the meaning of someone striking you and making you feel pain. That’s how it feels when you tell the person the truth. The difference is that the pain they feel is actually healing them because it will make them repent and bring them back to being right with Jesus Christ. Clearly, this verse teaches that rebuke for the sake of the truth is the most loving thing you can do.

Jesus is the truth and He is love. The truth and love cannot be separated and we cannot be people pleasers because to be one you have to compromise the truth.

The word “death” does not refer to spiritual death but physical.

Let us make both, the truth and love a priority, without missing one of them when bringing a believer back to Jesus.

Verse By Verse Through Revelation (8:1-5)

The seventh seal is used for the introduction of the seven trumpets.

1 When He opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour.

The phrase “half an hour” could refer to 6 months of calm from the barrages of the prior 6 seals

2 Then I saw the seven angels who stand in the presence of God; seven trumpets were given to them.

The angels were given the trumpets and were on standby, waiting for God’s command to blow them. The trumpets are going to be worse than the seals. Each stage of judgments gets more intense.

3 Another angel, with a gold incense burner, came and stood at the altar. He was given a large amount of incense to offer with the prayers of all the saints on the gold altar in front of the throne.

Most likely these prayers refer to the Christians who are going through the great tribulation. All of their prayers for help are brought by an angel to the throne of God.

4 The smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, went up in the presence of God from the angel’s hand.

Keywords: smoke, incense, and prayers all mean the same. The prayers of the saints fill God’s throne and as incense is pleasant to one’s nostrils so prayers are to God’s ears.

5 The angel took the incense burner, filled it with fire from the altar, and hurled it to the earth; there were rumblings of thunder, flashes of lightning, and an earthquake.

God responded to the prayers of the saints by bringing severe judgment upon those on the earth who were persecuting them.

Warning! Apostasy In Progress

A wall of protection against the demonic forces

How does apostasy look like?

Every Christian has a massive spiritual wall that shields them in. The demonic forces on a daily basis without fail are constantly bombarding that wall of protection. That wall is our faith in Christ.

Full blown apostasy occurs when a person is in the truth but hasn’t fully placed their trust in Jesus Christ yet and ends up falling away for some reason. Those are seen in the parable of Jesus in regards to the seeds that fell along the path which is found in Matthew 13. All the plants except for one didn’t produce any fruit and ended up dying. Fruits are the evidence of the Holy Spirit residing in a person and no fruit shows that the Holy Spirit never made His home in them.

Another category of apostasy which I call momentary apostasy occurs to a truly born again believer who gets deceived for lack of studying the scripture but eventually the Holy Spirit brings him or her back to the truth through repentance by convicting the individual of their erroneous beliefs. We see this in 2 Chronicles 33:1-17 and a warning to study God’s Word so a Christian won’t be deceived in Ephesians 4:11-14.

In today’s time, we are witnessing full blown apostasy as countless of churches are accepting homosexuality as being right in God’s eyes. These churches have abandoned the truth and taking with them their members.

For an example of this apostasy, click on the link: “Church of England Overwhelmingly Votes to ‘Welcome and Affirm’ Transgenders”

Another serious apostate is Eugene Peterson who was the creator of “The Message” (a paraphrase Bible translation). Click on the link: “False ‘Message Bible’ Creator Changes Mind on Homosexuality, Says He Would Officiate ‘Gay Wedding’

If you have, I say this loosely, the “Bible” called “The Message” get rid of it and stop reading from it because an apostate wrote without the aid of the Holy Spirit. Folks, by reading “The Message” you are intaking poison.

No matter what Christians, cling to God’s righteousness and don’t flinch from God’s Word for even a second. Satan wants to take you away from holy scripture. Don’t listen to him but hold on to the Word of God. It’s not worth it.
