From Whom Does The Gospel Come From John Calvin Or The Holy Spirit?

I came across two Calvinists that claimed something so horrific that it made me gasp. I have never thought that’s what that group believed. I would like to share this without naming them out of respect. Why do Calvinists hold to John Calvin and his teachings above the Holy Spirit’s? I’m going, to be honest, it seems like they worship the man even though they never have said that of course but their action to defend the man seems to me like if he was the one who died for their sins. All they talk about is him and less of Christ.

If you go to their site all they post are quotes from famous Calvinists as if it was inspired, it blows my mind. Why not talk about Jesus, his love for humanity? I think they don’t as much because they teach that Jesus only died for some and the others He didn’t. What’s the picture of God’s love? It is the cross, right? Well, if Jesus only died for the elect that means that He didn’t love the rest, that would be the logical conclusion.

That teaching does not come from God, I can be 100% sure in saying that Jesus loves everyone in the world as John 3:16 so beautifully says. Below are their quotes and it disturbed me so much that I wanted to share it so you can witness for yourselves what’s in their hearts which I truly believe is a rejection of the Holy Spirit. I will not paint all Calvinism with a broad brush but a lot of them I believe are deceived. Also, they will always tell you that if you don’t believe in their doctrine that you are an Arminian. I reject wholeheartedly that name because I haven’t studied or learned from him.

A Calvinist said“But it’s necessary to test everything they teach by the Word of God – we’re commanded to test everything. The Holy Spirit also teaches us and leads us through His Word directly, though no prophecy is of private interpretation. We should never cling to teachers who are human and err, but only to Jesus Christ. However we can err by believing only in the Holy Spirit to guide us.”

Another Calvinist said“A cult group called The Last Reformation is a fine example of following the “Holy Spirit” without other teachers to help in knowing if it is, in truth, the Holy Spirit doing the teaching. Discernment is an exercise which requires much study in the Word of God and by commentaries through His gift of godly learned men.”

This Calvinist claims that discernment (knowing the scriptures) can only be achieved by men’s commentaries, not by the Holy Spirit. Do you see anything wrong with that belief? This is not from Jesus but from Satan who will do anything to keep you away from knowing the truth which by the way is only revealed by the Holy Spirit (John 16:13)

As you can see in both quotes, how they speak from two sides of the same mouth which scripture says not to do this.

James 3:10

Praising and cursing come out of the same mouth. My brothers, these things should not be this way.

They are praising the Lord then turn around in the next sentence and curse the Holy Spirit by saying not to listen to Him alone because you can err as if the Holy Spirit can mislead you. This to me is very demonic without any doubt. They claim that if you believe and attend a church that does not follow John Calvin’s doctrine and only the Holy Spirit then you are characterized as a cult member.

What does the Bible say about the Holy Spirit?

John 16:13

When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all the truth. For He will not speak on His own, but He will speak whatever He hears. He will also declare to you what is to come.
1 John 2:27

27 The anointing you received from Him remains in you, and you don’t need anyone to teach you. Instead, His anointing teaches you about all things and is true and is not a lie; just as He has taught you, remain in Him.

The Holy Spirit warned us in 1 Timothy that some will depart from the truth by going after strange doctrines through false teachers instead of listening to Him who is our teacher, they heap on themselves doctrines of demons. See below.

1 Timothy 4:1

Now the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will depart from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and the teachings of demons

When you reject the Holy Spirit’s teachings you will accept the teachings of demons.

I’m not saying that we don’t need teachers, but the Bible does tell us to judge them through scripture to make sure they are from God (1 Thessalonians 5:21, 1 Corinthians 14:29).

A Pastor’s job is to remind us to continue in the faith and teach us scripture. They are not there to dictate the final meaning of any particular verse and interpretation without any question. Teachers are to help us seek the Lord more by encouraging us to do our own study.

Is that what Calvinism does? Do they not follow the man’s interpretation as it is the only true interpretation? As if John Calvin was the only man who knew the real truth, that folks, is ridiculous.

I believe that some of his teachings are pushing people away from Jesus Christ and those who are Calvinists might not even be saved because they believe that before you can have faith in Jesus He has to save you first. They claim that you are so spiritually dead that you cannot choose to have faith in Jesus even if the Holy Spirit convicts and reveals the truth to you. That my friends contradict Ephesians 2:8-9. The more I dig deep into their doctrine, the more I get horrified. May the Lord Jesus Christ have mercy on them and bring them out so that they can follow Jesus alone not John Calvin.

One last thought. They remind me a lot of Catholicism because just as Catholics they adhere to someone’s interpretation as being final. The Calvinists claim scripture alone but that’s a lie because they understand the Bible through the eyes of Calvin just like the Catholics through the eyes of the Popes and Priests. What’s the difference between John Calvin and Catholicism’s Papal infallibility (everything that comes out of the pope’s mouth is free of error and therefore authoritative)? There is no difference with Calvinism. They will claim that Calvin is not perfect yet at the same time they defend his teachings as if it was perfect.

Verse of the Day Q&A: Zeal For God’s Word

2 Timothy 2:15

15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who doesn’t need to be ashamed, correctly teaching the word of truth.

The word “diligent” in Greek means to be eager or zealous. God approves of those who are eagered to study God’s Word so that they can correctly preach the truth to the lost and keep themselves on the right track. Are you zealous to know the truth? Do you read the Bible everyday to seek to know the Lord more or you just don’t have that zeal like when you first got saved? How important is God’s approval to you?

Why Did Jesus Say To Cut Off Your Hand, Foot, and Gouge Out Your Eye?

born again
Being born again and becoming a new man in Christ

Matthew 18:8-9

8 If your hand or your foot causes your downfall, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life maimed or lame, than to have two hands or two feet and be thrown into the eternal fire. 9 And if your eye causes your downfall, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye, rather than to have two eyes and be thrown into hellfire!

Why did Jesus use an extreme illustration of cutting one’s body parts to avoid going to hell?

Hell is so terrible that you have to take decisive action to avoid going there at all cost because it is eternal.

If you would cross reference the verses above with Matthew 5:27-29 it will shed more light on the meaning of Jesus’ illustration. See below.

Matthew 5:27-29

27 “You have heard that it was said, Do not commit adultery. 28 But I tell you, everyone who looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. 29 If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of the parts of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.

1. Eye-Those who lust after women/men and material things. For these things are keeping them away from Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 6:9, Matthew 19:23, Mark 10:23, 1 Timothy 6:9-10).

2. Hand-Refers to those who steal because they are given over to covetousness that they will go to any length to get it.

Ephesians 4:28

The thief must no longer steal. Instead, he must do honest work with his own hands, so that he has something to share with anyone in need.

3. Foot-Those who run off to commit murder for the sake of money or revenge. To murder someone, the individual must harbor deep hatred towards a person (Leviticus 19:17-19). Jesus is love but a murderous person has pure hatred which reflects Satan in their life. A person with deep hatred cannot open his heart to Jesus because it has become callous.

Isaiah 59:7

Their feet run after evil, and they rush to shed innocent blood. Their thoughts are sinful thoughts; ruin and wretchedness are in their paths.

How does a person cut off their hand, foot and gouge out their eye? By running to Jesus (by placing their faith in Him) who will cut them off and replace them with an eye that is used for seeing who is in need of help. The hand to rescue and the foot to run and tell someone the good news (Romans 10:15).

Without Jesus in your life, you are being used by Satan to do his will (2 Timothy 2:26) and also to satisfy your sinful desires but at the end, your reward will be hell. It’s not worth it, run to Jesus today and He will make you into a new man. See picture above.

Biblical Q&A: A Question On The Tactics Of Satan And Can He Use Loneliness To Attack Us

God’s Warrior asks:

1). My question is in regards to combating Satan’s tactics. Particularly for me, I want to know how to become aware of Satan’s tactics; whether through people or situations.

2). Can Satan use our loneliness and separation from others to prey upon our weaknesses?

Thank you for your questions, I hope my answer(s) help.

Satan will use whatever works best in making you stumble either with people, especially those closest to you or any given situation. I will show you some examples in scripture of both.

Luke 22:1-6

The Festival of Unleavened Bread, which is called Passover, was drawing near. 2 The chief priests and the scribes were looking for a way to put Him to death, because they were afraid of the people.
3 Then Satan entered Judas, called Iscariot, who was numbered among the Twelve. 4 He went away and discussed with the chief priests and temple police how he could hand Him over to them. 5 They were glad and agreed to give him silver. 6 So he accepted the offer and started looking for a good opportunity to betray Him to them when the crowd was not present.

Judas Iscariot who was in Jesus’ inner-circle and a disciple betrayed Him.

2 Corinthians 11:24-27

24 Five times I received 39 lashes from Jews.
25 Three times I was beaten with rods by the Romans.
Once I was stoned by my enemies.
Three times I was shipwrecked.
I have spent a night and a day
in the open sea.
26 On frequent journeys, I faced
dangers from rivers,
dangers from robbers,
dangers from my own people,
dangers from the Gentiles,
dangers in the city,
dangers in the open country,
dangers on the sea,
and dangers among false brothers;
27 labor and hardship,
many sleepless nights, hunger and thirst,
often without food, cold, and lacking clothing.

Satan used these situations to destroy Paul’s faith which he failed to do.

The first thing you have to do and this is essential, is to put on the full armor of God (Ephesians 6:11). What is the full armor of God? It is the Lord Jesus Christ as seen in Romans 13:14 which says, 14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no plans to satisfy the fleshly desires.

By putting on the armor of God it means that you are depending on God’s strength, not yours.

Ephesians 6:10 Finally, be strengthened by the Lord and by His vast strength.

In verse 11 it says, Put on the full armor of God so that you can stand against the tactics of the Devil.

The only way we are going to defeat Satan’s tactics is by relying on Jesus Christ’s strength.

For an in-depth study of each piece of armor click on the link “The Full Armor of God Series”

How do we put on Christ? We put Him on through reading His Word every day which will transform our mind to that of Christ (Romans 12:2). When we have the mind of Christ to know His will and what pleases Him it will be more difficult for demons to deceive us or tempt us to sin. Prayer is as important as reading God’s Word because it builds our faith in Christ as seen in Jude 1:20 which says, But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit

When we are in God’s Word we will be aware of Satan’s schemes and traps because scripture will reveal how he works and the Holy Spirit will warn us of danger. In 2 Corinthians 2:9-11 it says, 9 I wrote for this purpose: to test your character to see if you are obedient in everything. 10 If you forgive anyone, I do too. For what I have forgiven—if I have forgiven anything—it is for you in the presence of Christ. 11 I have done this so that we may not be taken advantage of by Satan. For we are not ignorant of his schemes.

Satan’s tactics are mostly temptations and for those who don’t know scripture well, deception through false religion.

If we walk according to the Spirit of God we will not give into our fleshly desires because our spiritual inner-man will be strengthened and our flesh will be weak so that we would overpower our desires to sin and instead do God’s will.

Galatians 5:16-18

16 I say then, walk by the Spirit and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. 17 For the flesh desires what is against the Spirit, and the Spirit desires what is against the flesh; these are opposed to each other, so that you don’t do what you want. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

The 2nd question which is: 2). Can Satan use our loneliness and separation from others to prey upon our weaknesses?

When a Christian starts to feel lonely and doesn’t deal with it quickly it can turn into depression which will start to eat away your faith in Christ. The longer you take the further you start to drift away from the Lord. A perfect illustration of this is Elijah who thought that he was the only prophet alive because of Ahab’s wife Jezebel. She heavily was on Baal worship and cause all Israel to abandon the Lord. Elijah thought that he was the only one who trusted in the Lord but the Lord told him that He had 7,000 who did not bow down or kiss Baal (a sign of worship). Satan made Elijah believe that he was all alone even though the Lord was with him. Satan’s goal is to take your focus away from Jesus and put it on your situation so that your faith gets weakened.

1 Kings 19:10

He replied, “I have been very zealous for the LORD God of Hosts, but the Israelites have abandoned Your covenant, torn down Your altars, and killed Your prophets with the sword. I alone am left, and they are looking for me to take my life.”

Elijah, thinking he was all alone, didn’t even stop to think that the Lord was with him so fear made his faith weakened. Now he feared Jezebel who was hunting him down to kill him. Elijah just finished winning a battle against the false prophets who worshiped Baal yet a woman made him run for his life. Why? Because he felt alone and didn’t take it to God so Satan used it against him.

Remember, any struggle that you might have, the enemy will always explore to find a way to destroy your faith in Jesus Christ. Stay in the Word and prayer daily, eat your spiritual food so that you may be found strong in the day of battle. Your confrontation with demons is not “if” but “when”, so be ready.

Verse By Verse Through Revelation (8:6-10)

6 And the seven angels who had the seven trumpets prepared to blow them.

The terrifying events are about to start with the blowing of the trumpets that are going to make men’s heart melt in fear.

7 The first angel blew his trumpet, and hail and fire, mixed with blood, were hurled to the earth. So a third of the earth was burned up, a third of the trees were burned up, and all the green grass was burned up.

The first trumpet is blown and death rains down on humanity. The phrase “hail and fire, mixed with blood” refers to chunks of ice and burning sulfur (Ezekiel 38:22) that comes down and causes great destruction, destroying 1/3 of nature. The blood could refer to the death of countless of people who chose darkness rather than the light (Psalms 11:6).

8 The second angel blew his trumpet, and something like a great mountain ablaze with fire was hurled into the sea. So a third of the sea became blood,

The phrase “great mountain ablaze with fire” may refer to a huge volcano that erupts and half of it breaks off and slides into the sea or a gigantic meteorite comes from space and strikes the sea.

9 a third of the living creatures in the sea died, and a third of the ships were destroyed.

A third of all kinds of fish and creatures in the sea will perish from a poisonous substance that emits from the huge mountain. It will also cause a massive tsunami wave that will destroy any ship that’s out at the time that it hits the water.

10 The third angel blew his trumpet, and a great star, blazing like a torch, fell from heaven. It fell on a third of the rivers and springs of water.

Now the third trumpet unleashes a judgment that brings another meteorite but this time it will strike the drinking water for mankind.
