Bible Trivia Saturday: The Death Of A Prophet (Answer)

Question:

What was the name of the prophet that the lion killed?

Answer:

Those who participated by reading the question and who researched the Bible for the answer but did not vote were correct. This was a trick question. I would like to highlight an individual who got the correct answer and give an applause to Mr. Donald N. Norris who said this in the comment section:

“I did a search in my Bible software for lion in both and new. Found a reference to a man of God eaten by a lion, but no name associated.”

The prophet that was killed by the lion, the Scripture did not disclose his name but rather called him “the man of God.”

His story is found in 1 Kings 13:20-24 which says,

20 While they were sitting at the table, the word of the Lord came to the prophet who had brought him back, 21 and the prophet cried out to the man of God who had come from Judah, “This is what the Lord says: ‘Because you rebelled against the command of the Lord and did not keep the command that the Lord your God commanded you— 22 but you went back and ate bread and drank water in the place that He said to you, “Do not eat bread and do not drink water”— your corpse will never reach the grave of your fathers.’”

23 So after he had eaten bread and after he had drunk, the old prophet saddled the donkey for the prophet he had brought back. 24 When he left, a lion attacked him along the way and killed him. His corpse was thrown on the road, and the donkey was standing beside it; the lion was standing beside the corpse too.

The man of God who prophesied in verses 1-3 was told by God not to go back home by the same way that he came to Israel. Most likely the reason why God told him that was because the northern part was in full-blown apostasy. The Lord knew that they were going to seek him out and didn’t want the man of God to be deceived. Sadly, that was exactly what happened and because he disobeyed the Lord, he was killed by a lion.
