11 The word of the Lord came to me: 12 “Son of man, lament for the king of Tyre (The king of Tyre was used as a double entendre. It was directed to the king and the one behind him) and say to him: This is what the Lord God says:
You were the seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty (The description shifts to that of the king of Tyre to a creature who at one point was sinless –perfection–).
13 You were in Eden, the garden of God. Every kind of precious stone covered you: carnelian, topaz, and diamond, beryl, onyx, and jasper, sapphire, turquoise and emerald. Your mountings and settings were crafted in gold; they were prepared on the day you were created (The creature preexisted humanity and was adorned with beauty when created).
14 You were an anointed guardian cherub, for I had appointed you. You were on the holy mountain of God; you walked among the fiery stones (The creature is now identified as an angel, one who had the highest position amongst the other angels. His duty was to guard the Throne of God – the holy mountain of God–).
15 From the day you were created you were blameless in your ways until wickedness was found in you (This guardian cherub was righteous until he sinned against God whom he guarded).
16 Through the abundance of your trade, you were filled with violence, and you sinned (Here the passage is directed to both individuals, the king of Tyre, and the cherub because the context demands it as seen in the second half of the passage. The king of Tyre became rich and powerful through trade verses 4-5 and was exalted and regarded himself as a god, see verse 1 of the same chapter. The word “trade” in Hebrew also means “traffic” which gives the understanding that the guardian cherub was selling something amongst the other angels. It wasn’t material goods but most likely was promises of higher positions as angels were created for specific positions in heaven).
So I expelled you in disgrace from the mountain of God, and banished you, guardian cherub, from among the fiery stones (This passage unveils the guardian cherub’s identity who is mentioned in the verses above as Satan or as he was called before his fall, Lucifer –shinning morning star– Isaiah 14:12. This interpretation is revealed in Luke 10:18 which says, He said to them, “I watched Satan fall from heaven like a lightning flash).
17 Your heart became proud because of your beauty; For the sake of your splendor you corrupted your wisdom. So I threw you down to the earth; I made you a spectacle before kings (Just like Satan who became proud because of his beauty and splendor meaning his glory, so was the king of Tyre which revealed what was behind him and showed Satan’s characteristics through the king. The king was being used by Satan for darkness and Ezekiel exposed this unfaithful cherub who abandoned God and deceived himself for his beauty and glory and now was deceiving the king of Tyre).
Satan was the first one who was deceived into thinking that he was able to overthrow God from His throne and take His place. Allowing pride and haughtiness because of his beauty to enter into his heart which deluded his mind and prompted him to deceive himself. He is the father of all deception because he was its first victim.
