Verse by Verse through Revelation (18:6-10)

babylon

6 Pay her back the way she also paid, and double it according to her works. In the cup in which she mixed, mix a double portion for her.

The phrase “Pay her back the way she also paid” refers to justice for the murder of believers and the deception of people in making them believe that they were worshiping the true Living God but in retrospect were worshiping a false god. God’s judgment will pursue those who participated in Satan’s work with double the punishment.

7 As much as she glorified herself and lived luxuriously, give her that much torment and grief, for she says in her heart, “I sit as a queen; I am not a widow, and I will never see grief.”

This false church lived off of the peoples’ donations and established with it multiple side businesses which supposedly was for God’s work but ended up in their pockets and exalted itself above all others, falsely asserting that judgment will never come to it. She is sadly mistaken. Judgment will come.

8 For this reason her plagues will come in one day—death and grief and famine. She will be burned up with fire, because the Lord God who judges her is mighty.

The phrase “For this reason her plagues will come in one day” means that once God is ready to bring judgment upon the false church. It will come quickly without warning.

The phrase “She will be burned up with fire” gives the idea that just as fire destroys everything completely, the Lord God will wipe it out from the face of the whole earth.

9 The kings of the earth who have committed sexual immorality and lived luxuriously with her will weep and mourn over her when they see the smoke of her burning.

Sexual immorality is in reference to spiritual decay. Anyone who is directed to leave Jesus Christ for a false Jesus will commit spiritual adultery.

The phrase “lived luxuriously” means that money played a big role in the motivation of deceiving the people.

Anyone who seeks a Jesus other than the Jesus of Holy Scripture without question will end up in the Lake of Fire for all eternity.

10 They will stand far off in fear of her torment, saying: Woe, woe, the great city, Babylon, the mighty city! For in a single hour your judgment has come.

The world will witness the destruction of this false religion.

Babylon is not to be taken as a real place but as a spiritual symbol. The reason for this is because of her description and the role she has played in history. Also, for one to commit sexual immorality, one has to be close to the truth or in the truth and who have abandoned the true God for a false one. That would narrow it down to a church that claims to be Christian but denies Jesus through their practices.

  1. ‘Anyone who is directed to leave Jesus Christ for a false Jesus will commit spiritual adultery.’ They’re all false Jesuses. Each and every believer worships a Jesus of their own making, including you. You certainly don’t worship the Jesus who said to sell everything to give to the poor, to turn the other cheek, to love your enemies. You don’t worship the Jesus who said God’s kingdom would arrive on the earth while his disciples were still alive and who taught the way to salvation was to help the poor, hungry, sick and naked. You worship a version of St Paul’s celestial Jesus – his Christ – who bears little relation to the Jesus of the synoptic gopsels.

LOL…that’s a funny statement coming from a guy who has given his life to believe in the Plante of the Apes.

“You certainly don’t worship the Jesus who said to sell everything to give to the poor, to turn the other cheek, to love your enemies.”

Wow, so sad, I’m getting the Bible explained to me by an Atheist who is as spiritually dead as one can ever get. That’s like having a mechanic trying to teach a surgeon how to operate. Your Biblical interpretation couldn’t get any worse if you try harder. Jesus was addressing the rich young ruler alone, it wasn’t a statement for ALL believers. The young guy made his money his god just like you Atheists do and Jesus was trying to show him that he couldn’t have both, The rich young ruler loved money that much. Either he committed his life to Jesus Christ or to his money. To turn the other cheek just means not to retaliate. And to love your enemies is when someone does you wrong you don’t repay him/her in the same way and it also means to tell them the good news about Jesus Christ. By your comment, it seems like you absolutely know that I don’t love my enemies. You have no idea who I am.

“You don’t worship the Jesus who said God’s kingdom would arrive on the earth while his disciples were still alive and who taught the way to salvation was to help the poor, hungry, sick and naked.”

Go look up the word “generation” on that passage. It is not referring to His contemporaries but to the Jewish race.

Again, you are slandering and mischaracterizing me as if you really know me, not helping people. You are just like the fake news, making up stories.

For a person as yourself who denies Jesus so much, you seem so desperate to disprove His existence and I understand why because your conscience is bothering you of your sinful lifestyle and the judgment that you will get.
