Extra-Biblical Text Is Satan’s Poisoned Bread

poison bread
Extra-biblical text [tradition or new teachings] is like eating poisoned bread
Matthew 4:4

4 He answered, “It is written: Man must not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.”

After Jesus was baptized and ready to begin His ministry, Satan came for an attack, to stop Him from doing the will of the Father.

What is interesting is that Jesus said four times, “it is written.” To defeat Satan, He never mentioned or quoted extra-biblical sources or Jewish traditions, but Scripture only.

Matthew 7:24-27

24 “Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain fell, the rivers rose, and the winds blew and pounded that house. Yet it didn’t collapse, because its foundation was on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and doesn’t act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 The rain fell, the rivers rose, the winds blew and pounded that house, and it collapsed. It collapsed with a great crash.”

In Matthew 7, Jesus reinforces the power of Scripture. The rain, the river rising, and the winds are in reference to a destructive force that will come your way to topple you. It is very clear that the meaning of the passages is in reference to spiritual attacks from demonic spirits to make the house fall which represents you from the rock which represents Jesus Christ whom we gave our lives to.

Jesus said that the only way to build our house [our lives] on the rock [Jesus Christ] is by Scripture alone. In 2 Timothy 3:15, it says, 15 and you know that from infancy you have known the sacred Scriptures, which are able to give you wisdom for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.

The Word of God reveals the true God from all of the false gods of the world. It directs you to the truth, the path that leads to salvation. Jesus said in John 14:6 that He is the way, the truth, and the life…Jesus is the gate that leads to heaven.

The Scriptures gives you faith which is necessary for salvation…Romans 10:17 So faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the message about Christ.

The devil will always without fail, introduce to you an alternative source [extra-biblical sources] for your spiritual walk to make you get off course. At first, it might sound biblical but eventually will teach you new ideas about Jesus, salvation, and how to please God that would be in disagreement with the Word of God.

A few examples:

The Jehovah’s Witnesses extra-biblical sources is called: The Watch Tower Magazine. It teaches you that Jesus is not God, but a created being who is the Archangel Michael. They also teach about Jesus…He is a god, not Yahweh, but a different god.

The Word of God teaches that Jesus is God [John 1:1, John 14:8-11, John 20:28].

The Mormons extra-biblical sources are called: The Book of Mormon, The Pearl of Great Price, and Doctrine and Covenants. They have 3 books which contradict each other. One says that God is Spirit, while the other says that Elohim is flesh and bones. Mormon’s doctrine teaches that you can become gods and can obtain your own planet.

The Word of God teaches against one becoming a god as that teaching comes from the devil himself [Genesis 3:1-5].

Catholicism: The Catechism. It teaches about salvation as follows:

The Catechism 846

846 ... He himself explicitly asserted the necessity of faith and Baptism, and thereby affirmed at the same time the necessity of the Church which men enter through Baptism as through a door. Hence they could not be saved who, knowing that the Catholic Church was founded as necessary by God through Christ, would refuse either to enter it or to remain in it.

“thereby affirmed at the same time the necessity of the Church which men enter through Baptism as through a door.” Works based salvation apart from Jesus Christ is taught here. The Catholic Church now becomes your Savior. Jesus said in John 10:9-10, 9 I am the gate. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will come in and go out and find pasture. 10 A thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I have come so that they may have life and have it in abundance.

Jesus is the only door, not the Catholic Church, but those who want to be the door are said to be [verse10] thieves whose intentions are only to steal and kill and destroy your faith in Jesus Christ.

The Catholic church also elevates Mary as equal to Jesus. They teach that Mary can hear everyone’s prayer, Mary being sinless, Mary saving you, and Mary is your mediator.

Tradition will always contradict the Bible. If we have God’s Word why do we need something else as if God is not enough for us? Tradition or extra-biblical sources’ purpose is to draw you away from God’s Word. It is to steer you in a different direction.

All you need is the text that is God-breathed, the Scriptures. Stay away from anything else that wants to take its place.

  1. Interesting article, and well written.

Just a thought: The Bible never once claims to be the only source of scripture, and actually references several other books that are not contained within it.

Also, just to correct a few points: The Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, and Pearl of Great Price do not contradict each other, and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has never taught that we will get our own planets.

    1. “Just a thought: The Bible never once claims to be the only source of scripture, and actually references several other books that are not contained within it.”

I appreciate your thought and visit. Your statement is incorrect because of your misunderstanding of Scripture.

      Titus 1:12
One of their very own prophets said, “Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons.”

I’m using the verse above as an example to your thought.

Just because Paul quoted a prophet from Crete [Scripture using another source], does not make it Scripture or God-Breathed. He was making a point that their own prophets even testify what type of people they are.

Personally, I can quote other books to make a point about Scripture, but I won’t say that the book I quoted from is now Scripture.

For an example: I can read a science book about the expansion of space and say that the book testifies to God existence because if space is growing out that means it had a beginning which points to God as the creator of space. I would never say that the book is now part of God’s Word.

The Jesus of Mormonism is not the same Jesus of the Bible. In Mormonism theology, Jesus is the brother of Satan and also teaches that Jesus is not eternal, but a created being. It teaches that human beings can become gods and that there are many gods. The Jesus of Mormonism, the Jehovah’s Witnesses, and of the Muslim’s, all are the same false Jesus’ that will draw people away from the Jesus of Holy Scripture.

Unless you repent and put your trust in Jesus that is revealed in Holy Scripture, you will not be saved.

      1. Well, my statement is not incorrect, and you are using the wrong examples to try and prove it.

Colossians 4: 16 “And when this epistle is read among you, cause that it be read also in the church of the Laodiceans; and that ye likewise read the epistle from Laodicea.”

Now, obviously Paul thought that the Epistle he had written to the Laodiceans was the word of God and intended the Colossians to read it as well. We, however, do not have that Epistle today. The fact that it is not in the current Bible does not mean that it is any less scripture today than it was then.

Then there is the earlier Epistle to the Corinthians (1 Corinthians 5: 9). This means what we have is actually 2nd and 3rd Corinthians, and we are missing 1st Corinthians, which is also scripture.
In the Old Testament there are many such books listed as scripture that we do not have. For instance, the Visions of Iddo the Seer (2 Chr. 9:29; 12:15; 13:22) that are clearly inspired of God. Then there is the book of Samuel the seer (1 Chr. 29:29); book of Gad the seer (1 Chr. 29:29); book of Nathan the prophet (1 Chr. 29:29; 2 Chr. 9:29); prophecy of Ahijah (2 Chr. 9:29); book of Shemaiah (2 Chr. 12:15); book of Jehu (2 Chr. 20:34); and the sayings of the seers (2 Chr. 33:19). All these prophets and seers wrote the words of God in books of scripture that we no longer possess.
So, again, the Bible makes it clear that what we have is not every book of scripture that has been written, or every word that God ever spoke to man. It speaks of the scriptures, yes, but it does not limit the scriptures to what the modern world calls the Bible.

As to the doctrine of the Church, you need to study a bit more. You clearly do not fully understand what is taught.
        Jesus was not created.
Man can become like God, but never become His equal.
While there are many who exist in the same state of being, there is only one God.

      2. Colossians 4:16
“16 After this letter has been read at your gathering, have it read also in the church of the Laodiceans; and see that you also read the letter from Laodicea.”

[shematwater said] “Now, obviously Paul thought that the Epistle he had written to the Laodiceans was the word of God and intended the Colossians to read it as well. We, however, do not have that Epistle today. The fact that it is not in the current Bible does not mean that it is any less scripture today than it was then.”

[SpaniardVIII said] Are you serious…LOL…in verse 16 it says “16 After this letter has been read at your gathering, have it read also in the church of the Laodiceans…”

Of course, we have it is called Colossians 4 verse 16. The phrase “after this letter” it is in reference to the Book of Colossians that he just finished writing to the church in Colosse.

[shematwater said] “So, again, the Bible makes it clear that what we have is not every book of scripture that has been written, or every word that God ever spoke to man. It speaks of the scriptures, yes, but it does not limit the scriptures to what the modern world calls the Bible.”

God didn’t preserve everything that was said by every [all of His] prophet, only the ones that He wanted for us to have which is our Bible today. Below, John said that Jesus said more than what it was written down in the Gospels but the Holy Spirit chose the ones we have today in our Bibles to be for us because that is what God wanted us to have.

Your false demonic Book of Mormon is NOT from God but from Satan to deceive people to follow a false Jesus and for that, you will receive a far worst punishment if you don’t repent and believe in the Jesus of Scripture NOT the Jesus of Joseph myth Book of lies.

        John 21:24-25
24 This is the disciple who testifies to these things and who wrote them down. We know that his testimony is true.
25 And there are also many other things that Jesus did, which, if every one of them were written down, I suppose not even the world itself could contain the books that would be written.
