15 “Be on your guard against false prophets who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravaging wolves. 16 You’ll recognize them by their fruit. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes or figs from thistles? 17 In the same way, every good tree produces good fruit, but a bad tree produces bad fruit. 18 A good tree can’t produce bad fruit; neither can a bad tree produce good fruit. 19 Every tree that doesn’t produce good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 So you’ll recognize them by their fruit.
21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, didn’t we prophesy in your name, drive out demons in your name, and do many miracles in your name?’ 23 Then I will announce to them, ‘I never knew you. Depart from me, you lawbreakers!’
What type of damage can a false prophet do to you?
Every false prophet will come to you as a professing Christian [sheep’s clothing]. If he comes as he really is, he will have a very hard time deceiving you because it will be too obvious. They are really like vicious animals [ravaging wolves] which tear at the flesh so likewise, they tear at your faith to shred it to pieces.
Jesus said that you have to be on your guard. To be on guard is to know the difference between what is the truth and what is false. In Matthew 4:1-11, when Satan tried to deceive/trick Jesus, Jesus only used the Scriptures to combat the lies that were being hurled at Him. What the Scripture does, it exposes what is false and keeps you from believing the lie, keeping you close to the Lord.
The Lord said that you will be able to recognize them [the false prophets] by their fruits.
[Bad Fruit] It is the person’s lifestyle based on their beliefs about God. They will teach and preach from what they perceive to be the truth.
If you compare their fruit with Scripture, it will show you if they believe in the truth or in a lie. A false prophet will believe in a false Jesus, 100% of the time. Their life will reflect a dark path because it is not based on true love [having the Holy Spirit in your heart] but on self. For example, all false religions will disown and hate their friends and family if they disagree with their beliefs.
If a person accepts the Jesus of a false prophet, a Jesus that cannot save, that person will die in his sins. Everything that they do for the false Jesus, praying to him, preaching about him, casting out demons in his name, going to church who are worshipping that Jesus and other ministries would have spent their lives reflecting a false Christ. Instead of following God’s Word and doing the will of God, they would have wasted all their time on earth breaking God’s Word and teaching others to do the same, thinking that they are teaching the truth.
In Judgment Day, Jesus will turn to the ones who worshiped a false Jesus and say to them, ‘I never knew you. Depart from me, you lawbreakers!’
“I never knew you” means that Jesus never ever lived in their hearts and had a personal relationship with them because they never called upon the real Jesus but on a false one.
By worshipping a false Jesus they were lawbreakers, in other words, everything they believed about the Bible was the reversal. What they deemed as the truth, was the lie, and what they deemed the lie, was the truth, thus breaking God’s Word every day.
Friends, the truth will set you free and it is found only in the Bible. No other material has the very Words of God. If you seek the Lord through His Word, He will reveal Himself to you but if you seek Him through other materials [the Watch Tower magazine, the Book of Mormon, the Qur’an, and Catholic traditions], you will never find the right Jesus.
