2 Chronicles 17:6
6 His mind rejoiced in the LORD’s ways, and he again removed the high places and Asherah poles from Judah.
The king of Judah, Jehoshaphat loved the Word of God. By reading it, it transformed the king’s character to that of God’s. The Scripture convicted him to further clean up his kingdom from all that which God hates.
When we read the Bible, it will change us to love the things that Jesus loves and God’s Word will remove any impurities from our lives. The Scripture will start to shape us to be more like Christ and the light in us [the Holy Spirit] will shine brighter for the world to see Jesus in us.
2 Chronicles 17:7-9
7 In the third year of his reign, Jehoshaphat sent his officials—Ben-hail, Obadiah, Zechariah, Nethanel, and Micaiah—to teach in the cities of Judah. 8 The Levites with them were Shemaiah, Nethaniah, Zebadiah, Asahel, Shemiramoth, Jehonathan, Adonijah, Tobijah, and Tob-adonijah; the priests, Elishama and Jehoram, were with these Levites. 9 They taught throughout Judah, having the book of the LORD’s instruction with them. They went throughout the towns of Judah and taught the people.
We see the process of God’s Word in a person’s life. First, the king rejoiced, read, and lived according to God’s Word. It changed him to remove anything in his life and in his kingdom which offended and displeased the LORD. That joy that God puts in our hearts cannot be contained. It spews out of us to others so they like us, could experience the joy of knowing Jesus and His love which would bring them to the knowledge that only through Him can a person find salvation.
2 Chronicles 17:10-11
10 The terror of the Lord was on all the kingdoms of the lands that surrounded Judah, so they didn’t fight against Jehoshaphat. 11 Some of the Philistines also brought gifts and silver as tribute to Jehoshaphat, and the Arabs brought him flocks: 7,700 rams and 7,700 male goats.
The result of loving and obeying God’s Word is that His blessing will follow you. Even your enemies will become your friends. The LORD will protect and provide you with the things you need. In the midst of a storm, the Word of God is our anchor. It will keep us from being destroyed through false doctrine.
A Prayer:
O Lord my God, may Your Word be ever on my lips and may You Holy Father strengthen Your children. Give them a desire, hunger, and thirst for Your Holy Word so that they may walk in Your will and praise You, in Jesus name I pray Amen.
