10 But these speak evil of whatever things they don’t know. They are destroyed in these things that they understand naturally, like the creatures without reason.
Who are these people? They are those who are creeping into churches and altering the spiritual lives of believers by trying to dismantle sound doctrine [verses 3-4].
These deceivers know that what they are teaching is false, but reasoning with them cannot be obtained for the truth has been rejected. They are compared to animals who only act on their cravings and desires.
By rejecting the truth and making false doctrine their teachings, their souls have been set apart for eternal destruction.

It refers to their function or purpose in the afterlife. In hell, people will have no purpose but to suffer for rejecting Jesus Christ and His righteousness and chose sin instead
