Our Faith Depends On Trusting In The Bible

The path of sanctification is the Word of God

John 17:15-17

15 I pray not that you would take them from the world, but that you would keep them from the evil one.
16 They are not of the world even as I am not of the world.
17 Sanctify them in your truth. Your word is truth.

Jesus is not praying to take us out of harm’s way but, to protect us from the demonic powers by the power of the Word of God which transforms us into the image of Jesus Christ. It provides us with strong faith to make our trust in the Lord steadfast.

Remember what happened to Judas Iscariot, how Satan entered him and used him to betray Christ, afterward, Satan convinced him to commit suicide. God’s Word protects us from falling away from Him.

1John 2:14 I have written to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God remains in you, and you have overcome the evil one.

The only way, we get sanctified is by reading and living the Bible. It is the source that God uses to transform us into Jesus’ image. The Bible replaces our character and adds His.

How many so-called Christians have abandoned the Bible? Preachers like Andy Stanley has rejected the Bible as necessary for the Christian-walk. He is deceiving countless believers and I pray that they will leave his church, finding one that preaches to trust in the Scriptures.

Why the attacks on the Bible? Because it is the source from which saving faith comes from.

Romans 10:17 So faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Luke 11:28 But he said, “On the contrary, blessed are those who hear the word of God, and keep it.”

Matthew 7:24  “Everyone therefore who hears these words of mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man, who built his house on a rock.

Matthew 7:25 The rain came down, the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat on that house; and it didn’t fall, for it was founded on the rock.

The endurance of our faith depends upon our unwavering trust in the Scriptures. If your trust in Scripture cracks, so does your faith in Jesus Christ. You want to see what that looks like? Go read the story of the fall of Adam and Eve in Genesis 3:1-6

  1. How can the fall of Adam and Eve have anything to do with their losing faith in Scripture? There can have been no scripture to believe in (or not.)

Incidentally, the Bible does not refer to itself as ‘the Word of God’. It reserves that title for Christ. Your transfer of the term to the Bible is a form of idolatry.

      [My reply]

Neil-“How can the fall of Adam and Eve have anything to do with their losing faith in Scripture?”

SpaniardVIII-That is because you have given the wrong meaning to the word “faith”

Faith can only be seen in action through the word “trust.”

Adam and Eve did not trust in God’s guidance and wisdom for them as she wanted to be her own god. That was Satan’s temptation for them. Satan wanted them to be independent of God.

      Genesis 3:4-6

4 The serpent said to the woman, “You won’t really die,
5 for God knows that in the day you eat it, your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
6 When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took some of its fruit, and ate; and she gave some to her husband with her, and he ate it, too.

Neil-“There can have been no scripture to believe in (or not.)”

SpaniardVIII-Of course, they had it. When God spoke to Adam not to eat the fruit from the tree in the middle of the garden. Adam, in turn, told Eve God’s Word. So, they did indeed have the Word of God spoken to them. They only had one command to follow from the LORD.

Neil-“Incidentally, the Bible does not refer to itself as ‘the Word of God’.”

SpaniardVIII-Yes, it does. 2 Timothy 3:16-17, “16 Every Scripture is God-breathed and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

SpaniardVIII-If you notice, the word “Scripture” means Bible and the word “God-breathed” means the Words that came from the mouth of God given to men by the Holy Spirit which is penned in the Bible.

Neil-“It reserves that title for Christ. Your transfer of the term to the Bible is a form of idolatry.”

SpaniardVIII-Yes, Jesus does have the title “the Word of God.”

The second half of your statement is false. Jesus said in Matthew 4:4, “But he answered, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.’”

If you notice that the words “mouth of God” connects to 2 Timothy 3:16 which refers to it as Scripture. All Christians must live according to what God has spoken which is the Bible. In Romans 10, faith comes from hearing the Word of God. A Christian’s faith is nurtured through the Scriptures. You see, the Bible reveals God’s will and shows you what God likes and what He dislikes. Also, in Matthew 7, Jesus said that by living according to His Word, we will be immovable through the storms that the enemy hurls at us because through the Bible a person holds on to Christ our Rock, the solid foundation. The Bible is the only source we have to know about the true Jesus Christ and He uses it to speak to those who love Him and is faithful. God does not delight in apostates.

      Hebrews 10:38
But the righteous will live by faith. If he shrinks back, my soul has no pleasure in him.”
