For The Devil To Defeat You, He Needs To Take Off Your Armor First

Armor of God (2)

Luke 11:21-22

21 When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own palace, his possessions are safe. 22 But when a stronger man attacks and conquers him, he takes away the first man’s armor on which the man relied and divides up his plunder.

Ephesians 6:10-13

10 Finally, be strengthened in the Lord and in the strength of his power. 11 Clothe yourselves with the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavens. 13 For this reason, take up the full armor of God so that you may be able to stand your ground on the evil day, and having done everything, to stand.

The only way the devil can defeat you is by convincing you first to take off your protection, the Full Armor of God.

In the Book of Luke, Jesus illustrates that a strong man has to be stripped off his armor first to conquer him. Satan understands that tactic and zooms in on the Christian’s armor, a refuge of protection that to defeat the Christian, he has to detach him from the Full Armor of God.

How does the devil convince the believer to abandon his armor?

The Belt of Truth-The devil has to convince you that the Bible has errors so that you won’t rely upon it or have trust in God’s Word. The Word of God teaches you what is right and wrong. A deviation from this will make you have a hard time distinguishing what pleases God and what doesn’t.

The Breastplate of Righteousness-By failing to understand God’s will, knowing God’s standard of right and wrong, false, and the truth, you will not be able to live a life of righteousness. Righteousness means to live according to God’s conduct [His character] as found in the Scriptures.

Fitting Your Feet…The Good News of Peace-By not being grounded in the Truth, we will not share the true freedom of the forgiveness of sins that a person can find in Jesus Christ. If we do share what we think is the Truth, we will be deluding the person even further away from the actual Truth as the Scripture has laid it out.

The Shield of Faith-Trusting in the promises of Scripture protects us from being hit and destroying our trust in Jesus Christ. The shield is vital to our safety and our continual progress in doing God’s will.

The Helmet of Salvation-Doubt is one of the devil’s strongest weapon in his armory. By removing the helmet which protects you from doubting God’s promise to you of having eternal life, the devil’s purpose is to make you feel that Jesus has abandoned you.

The Sword of The Spirit-The sword which is the Word of God is an offensive weapon to cripple or destroy the opponent by a strike. The sword can also be used as a defensive weapon by blocking the other weapons hit. God’s Word stops false doctrine in its track and counters [striking back] by revealing to the person the Truth and the lies he or she is preaching. The swords strike on a person is for saving them from the lies of the devil, but for a demon, it is to destroy their lie and progress. Without this weapon, there won’t be a possibility to defeat the enemy.

If we allow doubt to sneak in our hearts about the Scriptures pertaining to any vital doctrine who God [the Godhead] is and the plan of salvation, we will be stripped from our protection and in danger of imminent destruction to our faith.

    1. Hello nickyab, thank you for your question. No, Satan cannot. The battle that we have with the satanic army is one that they try to make us sin against the Lord. Remember in the Book of Job, how Satan tried to make Job curse God to abandon God’s righteousness? Satan can’t take it away from us but he tries to convince us through difficult circumstances to leave our only righteousness, Jesus Christ.

  2. This is nothing but the truth! The full armor of God is needed for a believer to fulfill to God’s will. We have too many professed Christians that refuse to read and live by the bible. The church can be making a much bigger influence on the world if we all knew this truth and how to apply it. I’m subbing a class right now at a public school and one of my students said that she believes in God but not the bible. And, another said that Christmas is just a time for family and friends to come together. It’s sad that I can respond because it is illegal to talk about Jesus in schools these days. But their comments made me think about the many Christian adults and parents who do not think the bible is relevant to their lives. It’s such a terrible thing. This is why the devil is running their lives. No, he did not take away their armor. They just never put it on so he’s easily attacking them and prevailing. I daily aim for my life to boldly reflect God’s Word because I love him and want to live a blessed life and lead others to him.

    1. Amen Jennifer, you seem to be a strong follower of Jesus Christ that understands the purpose of God’s Word. Jesus said in Matthew 4 that men do not live on bread alone but on every Word that comes from the mouth of God. Faith needs to be fed daily and those who don’t read the Bible are starving their faith. The school system has sadly thrown God out and evil has taken God’s place in it. We need more teachers like yourself to be a light to kids in public schools because the Holy Spirit will bring some to you so that you may lead them to Jesus. Don’t worry about the outcome of your position, what God opens no one can close and what God closes no one can open. God will protect your job because at the end, we all have a job to do and that is to bring people to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ through the Gospel. Thank you so much for your work and faithfulness in holding on to Scripture.

      1. Thank you! Your words are confirmation for me. I’ve praying constantly about what teaching job to choose when I get my degree next year. Should I work in the Christian school and use my biblical studies degree or work in the public school to be a light in the darkness!? As easy as it is to run to the private school, I feel God leading me the other way. I’m still praying on it but I am taking this into consideration. ❤️

      2. God uses His saints to speak to His saints. I know for certain that the Lord will direct your path according to Proverbs 16:9 which says, “A person’s heart plans his way,
but the Lord determines his steps.”

These verses reveal that you are seeking God’s guidance and that you are in step with His Word. Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
        and do not rely on your own understanding;
6 think about Him in all your ways,
and He will guide you on the right paths.”
