Balaam And His Donkey. What Is God Trying To Tell You?

balaam
Numbers 22:28
28 Then the Lord opened the donkey’s mouth, and she asked Balaam, “What have I done to you that you have beaten me these three times?”

Before Balaam went with Balak’s officials, God first told him not to go with them, see verse 12, because Balak wanted him to curse God’s people Israel. After Balak’s officials left and got back to Balak, he sent them back to Balaam with an entourage that was greater in number and with officials of higher ranking.

The LORD told Balaam, you may go with them for the purpose of speaking My Word to Balak but not for cursing the Israelites because I have blessed them.

The problem was that Balaam was not intending to obey the voice of the LORD so the angel of the LORD met him on the path with a sword in hand to put him to death. The donkey, however, saw the angel of the LORD and tried to avoid the sword at all costs. Balaam, spiritually blinded, would hit his animal even though it was saving his life.
In God’s mercy, He opened the mouth of the donkey so that it could speak like a human to give some sense to a senseless man that was headed for death. The donkey protested the beatings it was receiving from Balaam and said: “What have I done to you that you have beaten me these three times?”

Sometimes, we find ourselves opposing, very strongly, the very thing that God is using to save our lives. Before we fight against it, get on your knees and ask the Lord Jesus Christ, why am I going through this, and what are You trying to tell me, Lord?
