[Luke 1:41, BSB] “41 When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.”
- The baby of Elizabeth leaping suggests that John felt the presence of Christ because the Holy Spirit was in John while in his mother’s womb (Luke 1:15).
[Luke 1:42, BSB] “42 In a loud voice she exclaimed, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!”
- Through the Holy Spirit, Elizabeth understood and exclaimed that Mary is blessed as she carries the Savior of the world who is to be born, thus the phrase “blessed is the fruit of your womb!”
[Luke 1:43, BSB] “43 And why am I so honored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?”
- Elizabeth feeling honored, it shows that she was humble in the presence of the Lord.
As believers, when Christ speaks to us, by way of the Scriptures or another believer, it is an honor to have the Creator of the world come to us.
[Luke 1:44, BSB] “44 For as soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy.”
- See verse 41.
True joy comes from the Holy Spirit who lives inside of us, it is not restrained by any adverse circumstance that we are going through. Even in the middle of our storm, Christ will help us, giving us peace and joy as our confidence rests in His power, not ours. Let us not forget, lest we get weary and veer off the path of righteousness.
[Luke 1:45, BSB] “45 Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord’s word to her will be fulfilled.”
- The Scriptures declare that those who believe and trust in the Word of God will be blessed. God is a God who keeps all of His promises, and anyone who relies on them, will not be put to shame.
