[Luke 1:51, BSB] “51 He has performed mighty deeds with His arm; He has scattered those who are proud in the thoughts of their hearts.”
- The phrase “performed mighty deeds” refers to execute righteous judgments upon those who are living in disobedience to God’s Word.
Pride dwelling in a person’s heart keeps them away from coming to the knowledge of Jesus Christ for salvation. Pride just means to make one self-sufficient who looks down on others, especially God, with contempt towards Him like those from the atheist’s community who show irreverence by claiming that God does not exist.
[Luke 1:52, BSB] “52 He has brought down rulers from their thrones, but has exalted the humble.”
- The phrase “brought down rulers from their thrones” refers to make an arrogant king, acknowledge that God is sovereign over all of His creation. We see this in Daniel Chapter 4 with king Nebuchadnezzar.
[Luke 1:53, BSB] “53 He has filled the hungry with good things, but has sent the rich away empty.”
- God alone sends rain upon the earth and makes the crops grow for food so that we may live. God gives wealth to whom He wishes, and in turn, takes away their wealth. All the wealth on earth belongs to God.
[Luke 1:54, BSB] “54 He has helped His servant Israel, remembering to be merciful,”
- The phrase “His servant Israel” refers to all of the Jewish people who came from Jacob, whom God renamed Israel.
[Luke 1:55, BSB] “55 as He promised to our fathers, to Abraham and his descendants forever.”
God keeps all of His promises, that is why Israel is helped to this very day and will be saved at Jesus’ second coming.
- The promise that God gave to Abraham was the coming of the Messiah to save the world from sin. God chose Abraham because He knew that he had a heart that was going to be devoted to Him. God took Abraham from his pagan family to transform him into a righteous man to establish his line to bring the Savior [Jesus Christ] of the world [John 3:16].
