“8 Watch yourselves, so that you do not lose what we have worked for, but that you may be fully rewarded.
9 Anyone who runs ahead without remaining in the teaching of Christ does not have God. Whoever remains in His teaching has both the Father and the Son.
10 If anyone comes to you but does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your home or even greet him.
11 Whoever greets such a person shares in his evil deeds.” -2 John 1:8-11, BSB
In verse 8, the Scriptures give a stark warning not to lose the good work that you did for the Lord Jesus Christ.
In verse 9, it says that if a person is claiming to follow Jesus Christ and has adopted a different view from what the Scripture clearly states reveals the person to be a false Christian without the Holy Spirit living inside of him. The one who believes in what the Bible teaches about who Jesus is, salvation, and everything else, God dwells in their hearts.
In verse 10, when a traveler would come, according to the culture, the owner of the house would take care of the weary traveler by providing him with a place to sleep and food so that he may continue on his journey the next day. What the passage is saying that if a “Christian” gets introduce into your life by way of Social Media but believes in unorthodox doctrines [not sound doctrine]. Do not support their blogs in any way.
Remember, false Christians will have some truth, which will contain lies not being consistent with sound teachings. For example, they will teach something truthful like to believe in Jesus for salvation, but at the same time teach that Jesus is another god, thus introducing heretical teachings that are damning. I want to be clear and make a difference between a baby Christian that doesn’t know too much from a false teacher who is deceived and continues to deceive others. An immature Christian will take correction with Scripture, but a false one will not. They will teach something that will go against what the Scripture makes clear about the person of Jesus and His promises found in His Word.
Verse 11 warns that any support that you give to a false teacher, you will end up promoting false doctrine and partake in his evil deeds. You will become that which you proclaim to despise.
