Getting To Know Jesus

And you will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.

-Jeremiah 29:13, NASB 2020

Imagine you have a friend that you barely speak to and visit. How well will you know him? Not very well. Relationships require precious time spent with each other.

If you want to get to know Jesus, you have to spend time in His Word. Ask the Lord to give you a desire to read the Word of God. The more you read God’s Word, the more the Holy Spirit will give you insight about Jesus’ character and the things about Him.

There is no other way to know about Jesus apart from the Scriptures. Do not make the mistake of reading extra-biblical sources in substitution of the Scriptures to know Christ. You might end up believing in a false Jesus.

For if one comes and preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted, this you tolerate very well!

-2 Corinthians 11:4, NASB 2020

All false religions have this in common; A different view of Jesus from the Scriptures. That is what makes them a false teacher in the first place. In 2 Corinthians 11:4, it gives you an outline of how the devil introduces a false Jesus Christ to someone.

  1. The devil will send you a person with a different spirit [demonic] to tell you about God.
  2. The person will start to tell you a different gospel that will contradict what the Bible already says about Jesus Christ and His salvation.
  3. If they are convincing, knowing how to twist God’s Word, you can end up believing in a different Jesus that cannot promise you eternal life.

Friend, ask yourself, “How well do I really know Jesus Christ?” If your answer is “Not that well,” you are in big trouble. You are standing on the edge of a cliff, where the devil can come from behind and push you off into a different Jesus and kill the truth from you. Don’t let that happen. Prayer and God’s Word is what’s going to keep you from the edge of doom.
