True Worshipers Will Worship The Father In Spirit And Truth

32 They also feared the LORD and appointed from their entire population priests of the high places, who acted for them in the houses of the high places. 33 They feared the LORD, yet they were serving their own gods in accordance with the custom of the nations from among whom they had been taken into exile. 34 To this day they act in accordance with the earlier customs: they do not fear the LORD, nor do they follow their statutes, their ordinances, the Law, or the commandments which the Lord commanded the sons of Jacob, whom He named Israel.

-2 Kings 17:32-34, NASB

Catholics claim to be followers of Jesus Christ and that they adhere to His Word, the Scriptures, but just like 2 Kings 17, the Catholics cancel God’s Word through their practices. The Catholic Church teaches false doctrine: to worship idols which have biblical names as if that would make bowing down to them acceptable in God’s sight and that works plus faith will save you from hell.

You cannot add to the Word of God, but must worship God according to the truth that is only found in Him. Jesus said in John 4:23

But a time is coming, and even now has arrived, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers.

-John 4:23, NASB

The Holy Spirit will never direct you to the catechism or any extra-biblical sources. God’s Spirit will only take you to the Scriptures according to John 14:26

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and remind you of all that I said to you.

-John 14:26, NASB

In Matthew 7 Jesus strengthens the point of how important God’s Word is for a believer. He said that His word [the Scriptures] alone will keep a Christian safe from having their faith destroyed. See below.

24 “Therefore, everyone who hears these words of Mine, and acts on them, will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 And the rain fell and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock.

-Matthew 7:24-25, NASB

Jesus also said in Matthew 4:4 that a Christian has to feed his spirit with every word that comes from the Scriptures. The emphasis that Jesus gives on basing one’s life on Scripture alone is very strong and He displayed it in the wilderness when He was tempted by Satan. He only used the Scriptures to combat the devil (Matthew 4:1-11).

If you are a Catholic and are worshiping Jesus Christ through the church’s tradition, know that you are cancelling the Word of God and are not worshiping God in the truth.
