Those Who Humble Themselves Will Be Exalted

26 It is not this way among you, but whoever wants to become prominent among you shall be your servant, 27 and whoever desires to be first among you shall be your slave; 28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.

Matthew 20:26-28, NASB

To be exalted or honored, the believer has to first learn to be humble—serving people. If we come with a mindset to be above others, the Lord will put us to shame by humbling us in a humiliating way. Jesus is our example of what true humility looks like.

The King of kings and Lord of lords—Jesus Christ— came to provide for the people’s needs and heal their sicknesses. Jesus didn’t even have a home to stay in, but stayed wherever He was welcomed.

19 Then a scribe came and said to Him, “Teacher, I will follow You wherever You go.” 20 And Jesus said to him, “The foxes have holes and the birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head. -Matthew 8:19-20

As believers in Jesus Christ, we need to have a spirit of lowliness and put the needs of others as important as ours (Philippians 2:4 “do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.”), which will make you live out… ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’”…-Mark 12:31 (a)

And also

“In everything, therefore, treat people the same way you want them to treat you, for this is the Law and the Prophets.” -Matthew 7:12

Our exaltation is only done by the Lord, who looks at the heart and its true intentions.

Whoever exalts himself shall be humbled, and whoever humbles himself shall be exalted. -Matthew 23:13

To have a successful walk with the Lord, we need first of all, the Holy Spirit living inside of us, second, love in our hearts for other people and knowing God’s Word well with prayer. Reading the Scriptures and praying might be hard for many of us, but as long as we press forward for these things, God will grant it to us.
