Then I will give you shepherds after My own heart, who will feed you knowledge and understanding.
Jeremiah 3:15 NASB
Shepherds can be attributed to any believer who are leading people to Jesus Christ for salvation. It has to be the Jesus of the Scriptures not the one that the false religions preach. To be after God’s heart is to know the truth and teach the people what the Bible says and means.
A person who loves the Scriptures will preach everything in it without avoiding topics that might seem hard. The Scriptures will undoubtedly offend those who are living contrary to it. Some Christians who support certain lifestyles like someone using drugs (weed) or over the counter drugs that might seem innocent but make you addicted to them and one who always compromises his convictions of the Scriptures by committing themselves to political correctness. We can not keep silent if we come across someone from the faith who promotes it or lives it.
26 Therefore, I testify to you this day that I am innocent of the blood of all people. 27 For I did not shrink from declaring to you the whole purpose of God. -Acts 20:26-27
If you do not preach the whole counsel of God, God will hold you responsible for those you didn’t warn even though it was unpopular to say. What is more important, to please God or people? You decide. But as for me, I want to please Christ Jesus by speaking the whole truth, regardless if it is accepted or not. How faithful are you with God’s Word?
29 I know that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock; 30 and from among your own selves men will arise, speaking perverse things to draw away the disciples after them. -Acts 20:29-30
Paul was warning the people that false teachers will eventually come to devour the naive, those who are not in the Word, to follow them for the purpose of shredding their faith to pieces. That’s what false teachings does, it destroys you completely.
Look at verse 29, and how it describes a false teacher. It calls them “savage wolves”. Wolves have a strong desire for blood, the moment they see an opening, they will commence their attack, and not just one, but a whole pack. If you do not have the Full Armor of God on, you will be consumed by their false doctrine.
How many times on this platform have I said to be in the Word and prayer, test everything with the Scriptures, don’t go chasing after extra-biblical resources, stick to the Bible, be careful what you hear. Don’t be afraid of what others may say or think. Preach the truth. The fear of men will keep you from preaching to people the whole truth. Another thing is not to compromise at all. If you do, you are shrinking back and God detests a faith that shrinks back.
But My righteous one will live by faith; And if he shrinks back, My soul has no pleasure in him. -Hebrews 10:38
How do you live by faith? By obeying God’s Word.
So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ. -Romans 10:17
Therefore, everyone who hears these words of Mine, and acts on them, will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. -Matthew 7:24
What matters to the Lord? Faithfulness to His Word, not just in word but in deed. Let God’s Word transform you into the image of Jesus Christ, so that you may be well equipped for every good work.
I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me. -Galatians 2:20
