Not everyone who claims to be a Christian is one. One can fool people, but not God. Many people sincerely believe that they are Christians, but they are not. They might believe this because of their parents being Christians. Or since they attend a church, they think that it makes them a Christian.
To be a follower of Jesus Christ, the person has to personally decide to accept Jesus and what He did for them on the cross. And pray to the Lord to save them. It has to be a decision from the heart with conviction, not because of their affiliation to Christianity.
A false Christian will be uprooted and exposed. What that means is that they will eventually abandon sound doctrine and deny the fundamental beliefs of Christianity. They will deny the person of Jesus Christ. A false Christian will end up believing in the wrong Jesus. Without the Holy Spirit, you cannot know the truth. The result in believing in the wrong Jesus, will send you to hell.
Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I am, you will die in your sins. -John 8:24
A True Christian From A False One
And the axe is already laid at the root of the trees; therefore, every tree that does not bear good fruit is being cut down and thrown into the fire. -Matthew 3:10
17 So every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 So then, you will know them by their fruits. 21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. -Matthew 7:17-21
Good Works
A true Christian is marked by a true conversion, having the Holy Spirit living inside of them. It is the Holy Spirit who enables them to produce fruits, showing that they belong to Christ.
What Is The Evidence Of One Being A Christian?
- Fruits are the good works that give evidence of conversion.
- Good deeds mean that the believer will do God’s will as found in the Scriptures.
- God’s will is a change of lifestyle in a person’s life. They will show love for all people, even their enemies, and will preach and teach the gospel of Jesus Christ to the lost.
for it is God who is at work in you, both to desire and to work for His good pleasure. -Philippians 2:13
You did not choose Me but I chose you, and appointed you that you would go and bear fruit, and that your fruit would remain, so that whatever you ask of the Father in My name He may give to you. -John 15:16
