Fixing My Eyes On The Lord So That I Won’t Stumble

Woe to the world because of its stumbling blocks! For it is inevitable that stumbling blocks come; but woe to the person through whom the stumbling block comes!

Matthew 18:7 NASB

As believers in Jesus Christ, we shouldn’t be surprised when temptations come knocking on our door and when it is placed in our path. All of us have different temptations designed for us to stumble over. But, there is one that the god of this age, Satan, brings about to men and women called lust.

Don’t be amazed, my brothers, as you take a trip to the supermarket and all of a sudden, you notice many women wearing tight leggings. It leaves nothing to the imagination. This tactical move from the devil is ancient. Job, a servant of the Lord, was a righteous man who also had to overcome the stumbling block of lust. This was his solution…“I made a covenant with my eyes not to look lustfully at a young woman.” -Job 31:1

Avoiding Falling Into Satan’s Trap

Making our eyes look straight ahead, away from any potential landmine, is a way of avoiding falling into the sin of lust. Satan will station these stumbling blocks in every corner of your life to eventually capture you off guard. To avoid being caught off guard, the Scripture says in Galatians 5:16-17, 16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want.”

How do we walk in the Spirit? It is by reading God’s Word daily and praying. After reading and praying, you would busy yourself with doing God’s will. That can come in any shape or form. Every believer is different, and God uses them in the place that He has designed for them to serve Him in. Walking in the Spirit of God is being active and producing fruits that please the Father in heaven.

When your mind is filled with the things of God, it won’t have any room for the lusts of this world. You will actually have no desire for them. Participating with the Holy Spirit will keep the sinful desires of the flesh under submission. The moment you get lazy in doing God’s will, that is when your flesh gets the upper hand on you.

Commit yourself today, when you see a woman dressed in very tight pants or shirt to look away. Don’t give the devil a foothold. He won’t let go.

For my eyes are toward You, God, the Lord; In You I take refuge; do not leave me defenseless. -Psalm 141:8

And for the women who wear clothing that will make your brothers in Christ stumble, don’t think that you will escape God’s discipline. You won’t. I’m sure you wouldn’t want your own husbands to fall into the same trap with another woman. Rather, adorn yourselves for Christ.

Do not become a stumbling block, whether to Jews or Greeks or the church of God -1 Corinthians 10:32

Keep On Fighting And Never Give In To Temptation.
