Fixing My Eyes On The Lord So That I Won’t Stumble

Woe to the world because of its stumbling blocks! For it is inevitable that stumbling blocks come; but woe to the person through whom the stumbling block comes!

Matthew 18:7 NASB

As believers in Jesus Christ, we shouldn’t be surprised when temptations come knocking on our door and when it is placed in our path. All of us have different temptations designed for us to stumble over. But, there is one that the god of this age, Satan, brings about to men and women called lust.

Don’t be amazed, my brothers, as you take a trip to the supermarket and all of a sudden, you notice many women wearing tight leggings. It leaves nothing to the imagination. This tactical move from the devil is ancient. Job, a servant of the Lord, was a righteous man who also had to overcome the stumbling block of lust. This was his solution…“I made a covenant with my eyes not to look lustfully at a young woman.” -Job 31:1

Avoiding Falling Into Satan’s Trap

Making our eyes look straight ahead, away from any potential landmine, is a way of avoiding falling into the sin of lust. Satan will station these stumbling blocks in every corner of your life to eventually capture you off guard. To avoid being caught off guard, the Scripture says in Galatians 5:16-17, 16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want.”

How do we walk in the Spirit? It is by reading God’s Word daily and praying. After reading and praying, you would busy yourself with doing God’s will. That can come in any shape or form. Every believer is different, and God uses them in the place that He has designed for them to serve Him in. Walking in the Spirit of God is being active and producing fruits that please the Father in heaven.

When your mind is filled with the things of God, it won’t have any room for the lusts of this world. You will actually have no desire for them. Participating with the Holy Spirit will keep the sinful desires of the flesh under submission. The moment you get lazy in doing God’s will, that is when your flesh gets the upper hand on you.

Commit yourself today, when you see a woman dressed in very tight pants or shirt to look away. Don’t give the devil a foothold. He won’t let go.

For my eyes are toward You, God, the Lord; In You I take refuge; do not leave me defenseless. -Psalm 141:8

And for the women who wear clothing that will make your brothers in Christ stumble, don’t think that you will escape God’s discipline. You won’t. I’m sure you wouldn’t want your own husbands to fall into the same trap with another woman. Rather, adorn yourselves for Christ.

Do not become a stumbling block, whether to Jews or Greeks or the church of God -1 Corinthians 10:32

Keep On Fighting And Never Give In To Temptation.

The Spirit Of Perversion Attacking The Churches

for the sexually immoral, homosexuals, slave traders, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound teaching

1 Timothy 1:10 NASB

The churches today are being invaded by a spirit of perversion. Many Christian denominations are allowing transgender people to serve and even be pastors at their church. Satan is planting his people, the homosexuals, into God’s churches to subvert the message of the gospel so that the people would abandon sound doctrine. Satan wants the Christian churches to align themselves with the culture. The culture has normalized homosexuality which God deems an abomination.

Churches Who Are Compromised For Affirming Homosexuality

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), Presbyterian Church (USA), United Church of Christ, Methodist, Episcopal, and Brethren/Mennonite denominations

One of the reasons that some churches are headed in that direction is that they no longer believe in the sufficiency of God’s Word. When this occurs, it allows sin to infiltrate God’s house to destroy sound teachings from people’s hearts. Once a professing believer accepts unbiblical views as spiritual norms, that person is in the process of having their faith decimated.

28 Be on guard for yourselves and for all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood. 29 I know that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock; 30 and from among your own selves men will arise, speaking perverse things to draw away the disciples after them. -Acts 20:28-30

We have to stand on biblical values not on feelings. Feelings can lead you astray, but the Word of the Lord will always lead you to the truth. So, don’t allow the spirit of perversion sway you in its direction. It desires your soul for complete destruction.

The Lord Will Uproot The Plants That Are Not His.

Not everyone who claims to be a Christian is one. One can fool people, but not God. Many people sincerely believe that they are Christians, but they are not. They might believe this because of their parents being Christians. Or since they attend a church, they think that it makes them a Christian.

To be a follower of Jesus Christ, the person has to personally decide to accept Jesus and what He did for them on the cross. And pray to the Lord to save them. It has to be a decision from the heart with conviction, not because of their affiliation to Christianity.

A false Christian will be uprooted and exposed. What that means is that they will eventually abandon sound doctrine and deny the fundamental beliefs of Christianity. They will deny the person of Jesus Christ. A false Christian will end up believing in the wrong Jesus. Without the Holy Spirit, you cannot know the truth. The result in believing in the wrong Jesus, will send you to hell.

Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I am, you will die in your sins. -John 8:24

A True Christian From A False One

And the axe is already laid at the root of the trees; therefore, every tree that does not bear good fruit is being cut down and thrown into the fire. -Matthew 3:10

17 So every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 So then, you will know them by their fruits. 21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. -Matthew 7:17-21

Good Works

A true Christian is marked by a true conversion, having the Holy Spirit living inside of them. It is the Holy Spirit who enables them to produce fruits, showing that they belong to Christ.

What Is The Evidence Of One Being A Christian?

  • Fruits are the good works that give evidence of conversion.
  • Good deeds mean that the believer will do God’s will as found in the Scriptures.
  • God’s will is a change of lifestyle in a person’s life. They will show love for all people, even their enemies, and will preach and teach the gospel of Jesus Christ to the lost.

for it is God who is at work in you, both to desire and to work for His good pleasure. -Philippians 2:13

You did not choose Me but I chose you, and appointed you that you would go and bear fruit, and that your fruit would remain, so that whatever you ask of the Father in My name He may give to you. -John 15:16
