And the man and his wife were both naked, and they were not ashamed.
Genesis 2:25
Adam and Eve’s shameless view of their nakedness was due to their sinlessness. They had no improper thoughts. But, after sin entered the world through their disobedience, they felt shame in their nakedness. Not only did they felt shame, but death also entered them. For the first time, they were embarrassed to be in the presence of the Lord naked.
10 “I heard Your voice in the garden,” he replied, “and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid myself.” 11 “Who told you that you were naked?” asked the LORD God. “Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?” -Genesis 3:10-11
Can a Christian be naked? Nakedness has two meanings. The first one refers to living in sin. The second reveals that the person who is claiming to be saved is still lost.
A Christian living in sin, making him unprepared for the return of Christ–Revelation 16:15, “Behold, I am coming like a thief. Blessed is the one who remains awake and clothed, so that he will not go naked and let his shame be exposed.”
Someone who thinks that he is saved but is not–Revelation 3:15-17, 15 I know your deeds; you are neither cold nor hot. How I wish you were one or the other! 16 So because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to vomit you out of My mouth! 17 You say, ‘I am rich; I have grown wealthy and need nothing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind, and naked.
How Not To Be Naked
We have to make sure that we read God’s Word and pray, making it a priority. Not only reading and praying but doing something for the Lord. You can tell someone about Jesus, His death, and resurrection. You can help your neighbor and show him or her Christ in you by loving them. There are many things you can do for Jesus. The way to start is to make sure your faith is strong in the Lord by seeking Him first. Let your life reflect that of Jesus’. If you preach the gospel but do not live it, you will become disqualified, in people’s eyes and God’s. You can become useless for Christ if you do not obey His Word.
You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its savor, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men. -Matthew 5:13
No, I discipline my body and make it my slave, so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified. -1 Corinthians 9:27
