Discipling: Fulfilling The Great Commission

18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey all that I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

Matthew 28:18-20

Jesus commands those who follow Him to go out and make disciples. We have two main primaries. The first one is to stay in communication with the Lord through prayer. Listening to the Lord by reading His Word, and the second is, to spread the gospel, bringing people to salvation.

It doesn’t stop there though, the moment a person gets saved, your job just started. You have to disciple that person in how to follow Jesus correctly. When a person is newly converted, they won’t grasp much of what the Bible teaches. You have to help them understand the Scriptures, showing patience and grace. You also have to teach them how to preach the gospel and what they need to watch out for when it comes to false doctrine.

If you leave a baby Christian alone, they can fall into the devil’s trap of deception for a while. We have to love those of the faith and steer them to God’s Word only and not bring them extra-biblical sources. And teach them how to defend their faith. If you do these things, you are a faithful servant of Jesus Christ.
