Jesus Calms The Waves

Who Is Jesus?

Jesus calms the waves when His disciples cry out for help after a storm develops in the sea. In the Old Testament, the same account occurs. The LORD [Yahweh] calms the waves when the people cry out to Him for help.

23 As He got into the boat, His disciples followed Him. 24 Suddenly, a violent storm arose on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves. But He was sleeping. 25 So the disciples came and woke Him up, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to die!” 26 But He said to them, “Why are you fearful, you of little faith?” Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the sea. And there was a great calm. 27 The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this?—even the winds and the sea obey Him!” -Matthew 8:23-27

Only God can calm the storm. If Jesus can also quiet the storm, who does that make Him?

25 He spoke and raised a tempest that stirred up the waves of the sea. 26 Rising up to the sky, sinking down to the depths, their courage melting away in anguish, 27 they reeled and staggered like drunken men, and all their skill was useless. 28 Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and He brought them out of their distress. 29 He stilled the storm to a murmur, and the waves of the sea were hushed. 30 They rejoiced when the waves grew quiet. Then He guided them to the harbor they longed for. -Psalm 107:25-30
