18 Now as Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon, who was called Peter, and his brother Andrew, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. 19 And He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of people.”
Matthew 4:18-19 NASB
Jesus is looking for fishermen, who He will train personally, so that they may catch as many as they can for His kingdom. And after we bring some in, then we must do to them what Jesus did for us, to train them to be fishermen as well.
It takes knowledge and having the right equipment to be a great fisherman. The first thing you need is the right equipment. That would be the Scriptures. You need to know God’s Word very well so that you may know how to use it in any circumstance. The next step would be to have the right bait. There are many different baits for many different kinds of fishes. Depending on the person you are reaching out to with the gospel, it’s a good idea to know where the person is at in life if you can. Then you can share with him the Scriptures that relate to his situation in life.
Fishing doesn’t mean that when you cast out your line that you will catch any fish at first. It takes a lot of patience to catch some. There is no difference when preaching the gospel. Don’t lose heart if you get rejected all the time. Keep preaching because you never know who will accept God’s Word for salvation. It is worth the sacrifice. The Lord cares for each and every person and doesn’t want any to die in their sins (2 Peter 3:9).
