10 I appeal to you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree together, so that there may be no divisions among you and that you may be united in mind and conviction. 11 My brothers, some from Chloe’s household have informed me that there are quarrels among you. 12 What I mean is this: Individuals among you are saying, “I follow Paul,” “I follow Apollos,” “I follow Cephas,” or “I follow Christ.”1 Corinthians 1:10-12 BSB
The type of division that Paul was against was the one that causes Christians to separate themselves from the rest of the believers as if they were different Christians. All Christians have the same Holy Spirit. We are all one in Christ. Do you call yourself a Calvinist, a reformed Christian, a Baptist, etc.? Do you look at other Christians who are not in your group as if they were different from you?
If you, being a Christian, call yourself by a title other than a follower of Jesus Christ, then you are worldly.
1 Brothers, I could not address you as spiritual, but as worldly—as infants in Christ. 2 I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for solid food. In fact, you are still not ready, 3 for you are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and dissension among you, are you not worldly? Are you not walking in the way of man?1 Corinthians 3:1-3 BSB
Christians are supposed to be united since we all have the same Spirit living inside if indeed we have been born again, through faith in Christ.
Let us not promote someone else’s theology but the one you get from your own Bible study. You might even come to see that it will agree with some theologians, but that’s because both have received it by the Holy Spirit. How do you know if you are truly hearing from the Lord? When you study the Scriptures and come out with the same understanding as most Christians.
If you never read the Scriptures, as to hear from the Lord, then why read? It’s okay to learn from others, but they cannot take the place of the Spirit of God. And, don’t exclude other Christians because they don’t adhere to your favorite theologian.
