Now if indeed I have found favor in Your sight, please let me know Your ways, that I may know You and find favor in Your sight. Remember that this nation is Your people.” -Exodus 33:13 BSB
“Now if indeed I have found favor in Your sight, please let me know Your ways” God will reveal Himself through the pages of the Bible to those who please Him with the way they live. To know Jesus intimately is an honor and shows that we have won His favor. Favor means to receive blessings from the Lord, and He gives it to you, not because you are more intelligent than others and deserve it, but because you obey His commands.
Has not My hand made all these things? And so they came into being,” declares the LORD. “This is the one I will esteem: he who is humble and contrite in spirit, who trembles at My word. -Isaiah 66:2 BSB
15 If you love Me, you will keep My commandments. -John 14:15 BSB
21 Whoever has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me. The one who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and reveal Myself to him. -John 14:21 BSB
“that I may know You and find favor in Your sight” If you don’t spend time in the Scriptures, putting it as second place, not as a priority, then you will never experience Jesus in a very personal way. He won’t seem real to you but very distant. If you seek the Lord to get closer to Him, He will get closer to you. Those who love Him and His Word Jesus will honor and give the person insight, wisdom, and knowledge.
If you notice that you are reading the Scriptures but are not understanding anything, it might be a serious sign that your spiritual walk is going in the wrong direction. Those who please the Lord will be given biblical understanding to know Jesus and grow in the faith. But, if you find yourself having to go to the bible commentaries regularly, then there’s obviously a disconnect between you and the Holy Spirit, keeping you from hearing from Him. Bible commentaries are good, but they should not take the place of the Holy Spirit.
Remember, your heart has to be willing to know the Lord more, which is achieved by spending time in the Word. If you don’t desire to read the Scriptures, you better ask Him to give it to you, or else you will find yourself never knowing Him.
