6 But as for the highly esteemed—whatever they were makes no difference to me; God does not show favoritism—those leaders added nothing to me. -Galatians 2:6 BSB
We must understand that this passage does not make Paul as if he has any animosity toward James, Peter, and John (“the highly esteemed”) see verse 9, but rather, he is stating that no one person is more important than the other in God’s eyes. He loves all believers the same. The Lord looks at the heart to see if we obey His commands. Those who live according to the Scriptures will have God’s favor.
When Paul said, “those leaders added nothing to me,” he was talking about a revelation he got from the Lord and wanted to make sure that he wasn’t running the race in vain, so Paul decided to visit the Apostles to share with them his revelation. See verse 2 of this chapter and its commentary. The Apostles added nothing to his revelation like correcting it but instead agreed that it was from the Lord. The topic of Paul’s revelation most likely had to do with having freedom from the Law of Moses. Some false believers were trying to cause the believers to go back to the Law. See Acts 15.
