Being Poured Out Like A Drink Offering

17 But even if I am being poured out like a drink offering on the sacrifice and service of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you. -Philippians 2:17 BSB

The phrase “poured out like a drink offering” is called a libation. In the Law of Moses, there was a daily sacrifice of lamb, fine flour, and oil that was mixed in with wine that the children of Israel had to offer with their animal sacrifice (Numbers 28:1-8, Exodus 29:38-41).

Paul understood that while he was in prison, he was eventually going to be put to death. So, by saying that he was going to be poured as a drinking offering, he was implying that he was surrendered to God’s will and ready to die for Christ.

It’s very difficult to surrender your life and your situation to God, regardless of the outcome. We must strive like Paul who accepted his fate with faith, knowing that he was going to his heavenly home which is far superior to the one he had on earth.

For some of us, God will call us to become a drink offering for His glory, and for others to endure many hardships until we go home. We must remember that we won’t be here forever. The world that awaits us is an eternal one that will blow our minds away and cause us to become awestruck when we see it.
