11 And Jesus answered them, “To you it has been granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been granted. 12 For whoever has, to him more shall be given, and he will have an abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has shall be taken away from him. 13 Therefore I speak to them in parables; because while seeing they do not see, and while hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand.

The phrase “the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven” refers to understanding the spiritual meaning of the Scripture. Knowledge of God’s Word has to be given to you from the Holy Spirit. Without God opening up your mind to know His Word, it will be impossible to understand.
Genuine believers in Christ who have the Holy Spirit will increase in knowledge not decrease, as verse 12 declares “For whoever has, to him more shall be given”.
The phrase “but whoever does not have” is a vivid warning to those who think that having knowledge without a relationship with Jesus Christ is what makes you right with God. The phrase means that people can acquire superficial understanding through others like pastors, Christians, and theological books. Even though a person might get some understanding, in reality, the deep meaning of God’s Word is kept secret from them. This type of person might think that they understand the truth, but since they are not rooted in the Holy Spirit, deception can easily push them away from the truth like a leaf in the wind.
Here is what happens to an apostate (a false convert) who abandons the truth of what the Word of God says in favor of strange teachings that contradict the Scriptures. The moment the person gets confronted with false doctrine, being devoid of God, having no protection, whatever they did know, it “shall be taken away from him” because they haven’t made the decision to completely give their life to Jesus Christ. They instead have come to rely on superficial knowledge, as mentioned above, thinking that they know the truth, over resting in the knowledge that comes from Lord Jesus Christ through prayer/humility and sincerity. Without the protection of the Holy Spirit, their theology will start to change or shift away from biblical doctrine into teachings that come from extra-biblical sources making their apostasy a reality.
A good example of this are those who cling to experiencing the supernatural as a way of obtaining biblical truth over the Scriptures. Teachers who are inclined to go that route include Sid Roth, Paula White, the New Apostolic Reformation, and the likes. Stay away from them.
This phrase “Therefore I speak to them in parables” can be applied as when a person without God in his heart hears biblical teachings, they will have a very difficult time understanding. This is due to having a calloused heart. Pride is the number one factor that becomes a stumbling block that will keep anyone from getting to know Jesus through His Word.
For this we know that we are truly in the last hour because those whom we thought to be sound in the past is now apostatizing.
