The Role Of A Father

I will be a father to him, and he will be a son to Me. When he does wrong, I will discipline him with a human rod and with blows from others.

2 Samuel 7:14

A father’s role is to look out for his children. Through discipline, he brings them back to the right path and good conduct for their benefit.

Our heavenly Father loves us more than we can truly understand. Even when we think we are headed in the right direction (not knowing that we are not), He steps in and not only warns us but sometimes, steps in and saves us from destruction through our misguided decision.

For children: Love and honor your father, who provides, and looks out for your well being. Make his role as a father, easier by being good kids. If you obey your father and mother, you will please the Lord and extend your life by living according to their advice.

Honor your father and your mother so that you may have a long life in the land that the LORD your God is giving you.

-Exodus 20:12

Honoring Your Father Will Please God And Will Bring You A Blessing

Fathers Day
A father, the protector of his family. Who can come near his children for harm? An earthly father is a picture of our heavenly Father

Ephesians 6:2-3

2 Honor your father and mother, which is the first commandment with a promise, 3 so that it may go well with you and that you may have a long life in the land.

The word honor in Greek has the meaning of a person estimating a price on something they value. If you have something you love, its price will be very high. Honor also means to respect those in high authority, especially one’s father who always look out for their children’s best interest.

The reason why there is a blessing attached to honoring one’s father is that it will teach and prepare the child, in turn, to honor the Father in heaven. If a child or a young adult dishonor their father who they see here on earth, how can they honor the Mighty Father in heaven who they cannot see?

When you honor [obey] your earthly father, your lifespan will lengthen. Why? Because he will teach you to avoid things, people, and places that will be harmful to you so that your life can be protected. God will look down from heaven and through your obedience, He will bless you for keeping the Word of God.
