Jude 1:5-The People Who God Set Free From Egypt

5 Now I want to remind you, though you know all these things: The Lord first saved a people out of Egypt and later destroyed those who did not believe

The audience that Jude wrote to knew Scripture very well, especially the passages he was referring to.

The people that came out of Egypt were two types. Those who believed in Yahweh, the I Am and those who ended up rejecting God by not listening to those who He appointed as leaders [Moses and Aaron]. God’s promise of the new land [Canaan] was not given to the disobedient, but rather to those who held on to His promises and kept His word.

The word “destroyed” means that physically, the wicked died in the desert and never got a chance to enter into the promised land. But, it also means that spiritually they were lost.

Jude 1:2-To Obtain Good Qualities

2 May mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to you.

  • Mercy-Have compassion for others.
  • Peace-Trust and know that God is in control.
  • Love-Love the Lord with all your heart and your neighbor as yourself. A person loves the Lord by obeying the Scriptures. And loving your neighbor is by telling him the good news.

May these qualities overflow in you for the benefit of others.

Beautiful On The Outside But Death In The Inside

whitewash tombs
A Picture of the world without God. Looks nice on the outside but twice as dead in the inside

A man who hasn’t showered for weeks, washes his face, shaves, combs his hair, puts on a new suit, and looks brand new. But with a closer inspection by one’s nose, it is obvious that something is seriously wrong with that picture [the man].

That is a spiritual picture of a religious person who looks righteous on the outside but is still being driven by his sinful pleasures.

Matthew 23:27

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which appear beautiful on the outside, but inside are full of the bones of the dead and every kind of impurity.”

The flesh brings death but the Spirit of God brings life. Walk in the Spirit to extinguish the desires of the flesh.
