2 Thessalonians 1:5-Those Who Suffer for Christ, Are Counted Worthy

2 Thess

5 This is an obvious sign of the righteous judgment of God, to the end that you may be counted worthy of God’s Kingdom, for which you also suffer. (WEB)

The sign of His righteous judgment [is found in verses 7, 9] will be the second coming of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He will come down with His heavenly army to punish those who have rejected His Word and for persecuting, killing and abusing His followers.

Our suffering in this present age is to display our commitment, love, and dedication to the Lord Jesus Christ and the Scriptures. No matter what the world under the influence of the devil brings against us, through the empowerment of the Holy Spirit, we will not be moved from following Christ.

Those who suffer and do not renounce their faith in Jesus Christ are counted worthy and will be rewarded at His second coming.

2 Thessalonians 1:4-Strong Faith In Jesus Christ Reveals Special Qualities

2 Thess

so that we ourselves boast about you in the assemblies of God for your perseverance and faith in all your persecutions and in the afflictions which you endure. (WEB)

Paul was telling the other churches how the church in Thessalonica’s walk with the Lord was shining. Let’s look closely at some of the keywords mentioned here and why Paul was boasting.

The believers in Thessalonica’s spiritual qualities

  1. Perseverance-The word means not to quit the task set before them, even if you are tired mentally or physically. It also shows a deep conviction with a mental focus to finish what they have started.
  2. Faith-It doesn’t just mean to believe but, to have trust. Trust means to live your life according to what you have been convinced of without deviating from it.

The believers in Thessalonica were going through persecutions and afflictions which revealed the genuineness of their faith by not giving up or abandoning Christ, they held on to Him even tighter.
