For The Devil To Defeat You, He Needs To Take Off Your Armor First

Armor of God (2)

Luke 11:21-22

21 When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own palace, his possessions are safe. 22 But when a stronger man attacks and conquers him, he takes away the first man’s armor on which the man relied and divides up his plunder.

Ephesians 6:10-13

10 Finally, be strengthened in the Lord and in the strength of his power. 11 Clothe yourselves with the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavens. 13 For this reason, take up the full armor of God so that you may be able to stand your ground on the evil day, and having done everything, to stand.

The only way the devil can defeat you is by convincing you first to take off your protection, the Full Armor of God.

In the Book of Luke, Jesus illustrates that a strong man has to be stripped off his armor first to conquer him. Satan understands that tactic and zooms in on the Christian’s armor, a refuge of protection that to defeat the Christian, he has to detach him from the Full Armor of God.

How does the devil convince the believer to abandon his armor?

The Belt of Truth-The devil has to convince you that the Bible has errors so that you won’t rely upon it or have trust in God’s Word. The Word of God teaches you what is right and wrong. A deviation from this will make you have a hard time distinguishing what pleases God and what doesn’t.

The Breastplate of Righteousness-By failing to understand God’s will, knowing God’s standard of right and wrong, false, and the truth, you will not be able to live a life of righteousness. Righteousness means to live according to God’s conduct [His character] as found in the Scriptures.

Fitting Your Feet…The Good News of Peace-By not being grounded in the Truth, we will not share the true freedom of the forgiveness of sins that a person can find in Jesus Christ. If we do share what we think is the Truth, we will be deluding the person even further away from the actual Truth as the Scripture has laid it out.

The Shield of Faith-Trusting in the promises of Scripture protects us from being hit and destroying our trust in Jesus Christ. The shield is vital to our safety and our continual progress in doing God’s will.

The Helmet of Salvation-Doubt is one of the devil’s strongest weapon in his armory. By removing the helmet which protects you from doubting God’s promise to you of having eternal life, the devil’s purpose is to make you feel that Jesus has abandoned you.

The Sword of The Spirit-The sword which is the Word of God is an offensive weapon to cripple or destroy the opponent by a strike. The sword can also be used as a defensive weapon by blocking the other weapons hit. God’s Word stops false doctrine in its track and counters [striking back] by revealing to the person the Truth and the lies he or she is preaching. The swords strike on a person is for saving them from the lies of the devil, but for a demon, it is to destroy their lie and progress. Without this weapon, there won’t be a possibility to defeat the enemy.

If we allow doubt to sneak in our hearts about the Scriptures pertaining to any vital doctrine who God [the Godhead] is and the plan of salvation, we will be stripped from our protection and in danger of imminent destruction to our faith.

Bible Trivia Saturday: The Full Armor of God (Answer)

QUESTION:

In Ephesians 6:10-18, what does each piece of armor represent?

ANSWER:

Ephesians 6:10-18

10 Finally, be strengthened by the Lord and by His vast strength. 11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can stand against the tactics of the Devil. 12 For our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the world powers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavens. 13 This is why you must take up the full armor of God, so that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having prepared everything, to take your stand.

14 Stand, therefore, with truth like a belt around your waist,
righteousness like armor on your chest,

15 and your feet sandaled with readiness
for the gospel of peace.

16 In every situation take the shield of faith,
and with it you will be able to extinguish
all the flaming arrows of the evil one.

17 Take the helmet of salvation,
and the sword of the Spirit,
which is God’s word

Putting on the full armor of God just simply means to put on Christ according to Romans 13:14 which says, But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no plans to satisfy the fleshly desires.

To overcome temptation and the schemes of the evil one, we must put on Jesus Christ who protects us.

  • The Helmet means to believe in Jesus as Lord and Savior so that we may receive salvation which protects us from the wrath of God. The Helmet also shields us from deception.
  • The Breastplate means to live a life of righteousness, doing God’s will by living according to His Word.
  • The Belt means to know the Truth and to gird yourself with it. Just as the belt holds one’s pants up so, in the same manner, the Truth which is the Gospel must hold our life tight to it.
  • The Sword means God’s Word which fights back against errors and the lies of Satan.
  • The Shield means to have strong faith in the Lord so that any various attacks (temptations) shall be thwarted.
  • The Shoes means to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection, that whosoever believes in Him shall not see death but have everlasting life. It also means to hold your ground and stand for the Truth as the shoes have spikes on the bottom.
