Could Jesus Have Sinned While He Was In The Body Here On Earth?

Matthew 4:1

Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.

The simple answer to the question “could Jesus have sinned” is NO. Why?

Colossians 2:9

For the entire fullness of God’s nature dwells bodily in Christ

Just like water that fills the vessel [jar] so likewise, God filled the flesh by putting it on like clothing. Jesus not only couldn’t have sinned, But He also did not desire it.

Psalm 5:4

For you are not a God who delights in wickedness;
evil cannot dwell with you.

Sin or evil CANNOT be found in God period. God Himself filled Jesus Christ like one who puts on a garment. Who is the real person, the garment or the one it is on? Jesus’ flesh was that garment which was on the Living God who is pure righteous and who hates sin.

Proverbs 6:16-19

16 The Lord hates six things;
in fact, seven are detestable to him:
17 arrogant eyes, a lying tongue,
hands that shed innocent blood,
18 a heart that plots wicked schemes,
feet eager to run to evil,
19 a lying witness who gives false testimony,
and one who stirs up trouble among brothers.

When the Bible says that the Word [Jesus who is God John 1:1] became flesh, it does not mean that the flesh that was on Him gave lustful and sinful cravings to the Son of God. It just means that Jesus in the body needed to eat, sleep, rest, and eventually, the body that God put on was to die for our sins or else He couldn’t have.

Hebrews 10:4-5

4 For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. 5 Therefore, as he was coming into the world, he said:

You did not desire sacrifice and offering,
but you prepared a body for me.

In Jesus’ temptation, He did not have a desire to sin [to rebel against the Father] like people do who are born in sin. Satan tried to make Jesus sin through his temptations, but Jesus wasn’t persuaded to take his offers. His passion was to please God and since He came from the Father, whatever the Father detested so did He.

Jesus was put to the test and He came out victoriously.

They are two different types of temptations

1. A person is tempted when he or she comes across a strong desire or a craving from the flesh to sin.

2. The one who is doing the tempting will try to get the person to take his bait however, it does not mean that the one being tempted will desire what the tempter is offering.

Jesus falls in the number 2 category because He did not desire to sin of any kind.

The devil will always tempt you to sin through the lust of the flesh, but God, on the other hand, will test you through tribulations so you can see where your faith in Him is at.

  1. After your comment, knowing that it wasn’t as clear as I wanted it to be, I felt inside of me a push to dig deeper into Scripture, and it just came out. I didn’t have to tried to hard because it wasn’t me but God put it in my heart what to say. Those are the posts that I like, when God does the work 🙂 More of Him and less of me.
