Jesus illustrated with the right eye that it would be beneficial to allow the reproach of the world to come upon you for following Jesus than to be honored by the world and to give in to its temptation.
For the world honors those who are like them, lost and headed for hell, but those who the world hates for being in Christ Jesus, walking in the truth and living in righteousness will inherit eternal life and dwell with the Father in heaven.
The world will always malign, the Word of God and those who follow it because they love darkness rather than the light. They prefer the lust of the flesh and its momentary pleasures than to surrender their lives to God’s righteousness for the godless people’s hearts only have room for themselves.

Sometimes it’s because Christians are just wrong, mean and rude.

Yes, some Christians can be rude which is wrong but not all who claim that title are. A true Christian loves, respects the person’s character but debates ideology. But don’t mistake rudeness and standing up for the truth as one and the same. Many godless people use very loosely, certain negative words to describe a Christian when he tells them the truth and reveals their sins. Basically, people love sin and hate when you tell them what Jesus says about it. The Christians bring a message of hope, of reconciliation with God, and of freedom from the bondage of sin that dictates a person’s life (drugs, alcohol, pornography, hatred, selfishness, and etc.).

God created humanity on earth and His judgment for sins is right. Yes God is always good as He gives chances upon chances for people to repent.

Was God doing good when he struck David and Bathsheba’s first child, allowed it to suffer 7 days before it died… because of David’s sin?

All people die, either early or later in life.
To answer your question directly, God did not allow David to receive a blessing of a child for his outrageous sin in which he committed. The baby went to be with the Lord in heaven, safe.
Remember, death doesn’t mean that life ends. Death means to transition from one dimension to another. At death you close your eyes just to reopen them in heaven or hell. According to a person’s decision regarding Jesus.

1st, I gotta say that your answer as to God has the right to destroy us, like we were just things, for any reason he sees fit, seems a bit extreme and cruel. We are not just robots or mechanisms. We are living, sentient beings with life.
2nd… That we all die, whether early or late in life matters little as to the morality of killing an innocent child for the sins of it’s father.
3rd… The bible does say “the soul that sins it shall die” as well as in Ezekiel that the sins of the father shall not be punished on the child. We may look at what got was using to punish David, but what God was “using” was killing an innocent child and not meeting out punishment or Justice on the one who had sinned.
4th… That child had no choice. Neither did the child have opportunity to know right or wrong. If you say its ok because the child would have gone straight to heaven… What of aborted babies? Does the idea, by extension, that they may go immediately to heaven mitigate the crime of killing them… as god did in the story of David and Bathsheba’s first child?

You are basing your arguments on feelings, not on the truth. You are judging God based upon your standard of good (morality) which you have received from the world. The world’s morality as a whole is pretty bad and it has no absolute so your standard is flawed. Robots and humans are both created. The owner of both has the right to do whatever He thinks is right. Remember, I said that once a person physically dies he or she keeps on living. We just transition from one dimension to another, our existence does not fade away because we die.
Now, for abortion, many people who support abortion have a great dilemma on their hands. They claim that killing an unborn child is moral because it is their body. But at the same time, they say that God has no right to destroy humanity even though He has greater rights because He is the creator of humanity and the universe, making Him the ultimate judge.
The world always contradicts themselves and base their arguments about God with illogical reasoning.
Jesus came to testify about the truth and the truth is that He paid with His life on the cross for your sins and on the third day rose from the grave. In John 14:6, Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. That is the reality. God is life and those who reject God with their free will, will go to spiritual death (hell). God has to punish sin and Jesus came to reveal the truth and how to receive eternal life so a person can avoid hell.

Well, morality is a very emotional subject and god himself is a very emotional being. “God is love” he gets angry, grieved, offended, and shows compassion.
But are you saying that whatever God chooses to do is right and good by virtue of him doing it?

But we must not be driven by emotions apart from the truth. Emotions is driven by someone’s desire. For an example: A married man meets a woman that is not his wife. He feels (his emotion) that she is his soul mate. Is it right for him to betray his wife for what he feels? Of course not, especially if it’s happening to you.
To answer your second question. Whatever God does is good regardless if you understand it or not.
I will give you a simple example.
You take your son to the doctor to get an injection to help him not get sick. For your son, you are hurting him and he is angry at you but he cannot see your perspective that you are helping him.
The babies that die go straight to be with the Lord.
God has that right because He created that baby but a person who is created does not have that right.
For an example. A regular person does not have the right to put a murderer to death but that right is given to a judge.
