Ephesians 4:11-13

11 And He personally gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers, 12 for the training of the saints in the work of ministry, to build up the body of Christ, 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of God’s Son, growing into a mature man with a stature measured by Christ’s fullness.

My brothers and sisters, the only way we will become mature in Jesus Christ is by filling our minds with God’s Word. If anyone tells you otherwise, that person is unspiritual and lacking discernment. Since we are living close to the return of Christ, there is such a strong attack on God’s Word because the enemy doesn’t want you to read it and build up your faith, let no one persuade you to put the Bible down. To love the Word of God is to love Jesus Christ according to John 14:23 which says, Jesus answered, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word. My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.”

My brothers and sisters how can you love Christ if you don’t fill your mind with Him and how can you show love to an unbeliever if you cannot express the Word of God because you don’t know it. I read two days ago that there was a study conducted that less than half of Christians read the Bible, around 37 percent. Below is part of the article that conducted the study.

“NEW YORK — Despite its enviable record as the most printed and sold book in the world over the last five decades, less than half of practicing Christians in the U.S. spend serious time engaging with their Bible, according to the American Bible Society, and the rest of the country is even worse.”

“In a presentation at the Movement Day Global Cities conference at the Jacob Javits Center last Wednesday, Samuel Harrell, director of Project Ignition at the American Bible Society, presented evidence gathered from a six-year assessment of the state of the Bible conducted by the Barna Group which shows that just 18 percent of the American population 18 years and older in general reads the Bible. Of the practicing Christians in that group, only 37 percent engage with their Bible.”

  1. It is a struggle even for some “Born Again” believers. How much more to those who are Christians only by association who question biblical inerrancy and veracity of God’s word?

    In 1517, when Luther nailed his 95 theses to the door of the church at Wittenberg, there were only 2 major denominations. After Luther was excommunicated and formed the first protestant denomination, there were about 30 denominations by the end of the 16th century. Today, there are over 40,000 denominations each claiming to interpret the bible correctly, but differing from one another on one or more doctrines. And most of these divisions and splintering is by groups where most of the members claim to be “born again”.

    So how is the 5 fold ministry you refer to in Ephesians leading to mature humanhood, to unity in the knowledge of the Son of man etc? What do you think of those Charismatics and Pentcostals who believe that there are modern prophets and apostles?

    These divisions suggest that it is not a lack of reading the bible that is at stake, but leaders who do read and study the bible who cannot agree with one another? What am I missing here? And why are many of the “born agains” often engaging in repugnant behaviour under the cloak of “defending the Word”?

  7. Hello John,

    I don’t know what answers you’re looking for, not in regard to the questions above but in bombardments of questions that you have asked which are everywhere on a topic. This will be my last answer to your question because I feel that we are going nowhere and you are everywhere with your questions. That said I will just answer two that you asked.

    You might think that there are factions but that isn’t the case. All Christian denominations are united in the core doctrine of Christianity which would make one a Christian. All issues of salvific, the person of Jesus Christ, God and the Holy Spirit, we are in agreement. If any of these are twisted to mean something else or to disagree then it wouldn’t make a person a Christian because without these (not going into detail as it will take too long) will disqualify a person according to the gospel of Jesus Christ, to have a relationship with Him. As you can see, you say they are many different denominations but those differences is not a salvific issue and will still make you a Christian.

    Your question is why two Christians who read the same passage of scripture come up with two different interpretation? I will be happy to answer.

    Let me illustrate this:
    The Holy Spirit is like a transmitter that is sending out the same signals to all radios which not all radios are equal. Some radios have broken antenna’s, some have a very small speaker and can hardly hear anything, some have bad batteries. What am I saying with this? I’m saying that these radios represent Christians with different receptivity to the Holy Spirit because some are closer to the world, others haven’t repented of all their sins, some don’t read the Bible as much or pray. When a Christian is not walking right with God he/she won’t clearly hear from the Holy Spirit because sin gets in the way of you and Jesus like a wall and its hard to hear something clear from Jesus when He speaks to you. because of the different walks with believers with the Lord, you get different understanding in scripture. These differences are minor but if it’s in the matter of salvific than that person is deceived and is deceiving others.

  8. Wow, all these questions that you asked me was only to gloat with pride by parading in someone else blog saying how great you are. Look John, you can have your pride and exalt yourself by all means, that’s all you will get in this life.

    You did this because you wanted to feed your pride but I tell you that if you don’t repent and believe in Jesus Christ you will be lost for an eternity. I sensed that by you being everywhere with your questions that you didn’t want to know about the Bible but wanted to prove to your atheists friends or yourself that you are better than me. You can have it if you like. You’re not banned from my blog unless you ask sincere questions I will answer.
