A person with true peace within finds joy, laughter, and confidence. But when one envies what the other has, it becomes a heavy burden on the soul and starts to kill the joy the person had.
To have peace, one must have the Holy Spirit living in their heart through faith in Jesus Christ. Envy comes from the flesh, and it desires things to satisfy its craving. The less we are in God’s Word, the stronger the desires of the flesh become.
To counter this, we have to starve the flesh, and it is done by walking alongside the Spirit of God. That means that we have to live out the Scriptures. The first step to live it out is to read it, coupled with prayer.
16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the flesh craves what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are opposed to each other, so that you do not do what you want. -Galatians 5:16-17 BSB
