1. Then I saw the Lamb open one of the seven seals, and I heard one of the four living creatures say with a voice like thunder, “Come!”
The start of the seals being open will show the cataclysmic events that will come to the inhabitants of the earth.
The Seraphim by their thunderous voice (pure power) called John to witness these events.
2 I looked, and there was a white horse. The horseman on it had a bow; a crown was given to him, and he went out as a victor to conquer.
The phrase “I looked, and there was a white horse” is an attempt for Satan through the Antichrist to imitate Jesus Christ who rides on a white horse and is victorious.
The first seal cannot be Jesus as the Jehovah’s Witnesses wrongly translate this verse because nowhere in the Book of Revelation do you see Jesus personally taking part as being one of the plagues that are found in the seals, trumpets, or bowls. However, He is the one who is administering the judgments upon the earth not being one of them as the first seal.
Another reason it is not Jesus is that He comes with no weapons but with the sword that comes out of His mouth which is the Word of God (Revelation 19:15). Jesus will defeat the demonic forces and the Antichrist with God’s Word. Nowhere in the New Testament is Jesus shown or mentioned with a bow.
The reason that it is the Antichrist on the white horse who will come to rule the world is that it’s predicted by Jesus in Matthew 24:15-22, also, see Daniel 9:27 and 2 Thessalonians 2:1-4. After he places his image of himself in the third temple, the judgments will start (the seals, trumpets, and bowls) and he will proclaim to be God which will take place in the second half of the 7 years of the great tribulation.
The phrase “and he went out as a victor to conquer” means that the purpose of the Antichrist is to force the human race to abandon God and to worship Satan through the Antichrist by receiving his mark (Revelation 6:13-16).
3 When He opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature say, “Come!”
The second seal is introduced and John once again is invited to witness the Lord’s judgments.
4 Then another horse went out, a fiery red one, and its horseman was empowered to take peace from the earth, so that people would slaughter one another. And a large sword was given to him.
The second seal was a fiery red horse which most likely is to represent the slaughter that takes place.
The world will lose peace as we know it and wars will break out and people will die on a massive scale.
5 When He opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, “Come!” And I looked, and there was a black horse. The horseman on it had a set of scales in his hand.
Here, John sees the third seal open and is a black horse with a set of scales which represents people having to take great measures to ration their food because there will be a great famine that will cover the whole world.

Spiritual Minefield 
Great explanation of the rider of this white horse. It can be confusing for some readers who have heard that Yeshua comes back on a white horse.

Thank you Don, it sure can be very confusing. I know the Jehovah Witnesses claim that it is Jesus. I think which I know you would agree, that the evidence found in scripture is overwhelming, pointing to the Antichrist.

Thanks for the references in Matthew, Daniel and 2 Thessalonians. When I come across references to the end times in the OT, gospels and epistles, I find it quite difficult where to place them within the timeline in Revelations.

Your welcome, thanks for reading it. Finding the scattered verses pertaining to the end times is time-consuming and their sequence but if a Christian makes the habit of reading the whole Bible once a year, those verses will be easier to find. God bless.

Yes, that is correct Jesus is coming riding on a white horse to destroy the Antichrist. But, the one in Revelation 6 is referring to the Antichrist who is coming to concur and make everyone on earth to worship him…see Revelation 13.
The Jehovah Witness gets it backwards.

I didn’t know this (‘have not had time to study what different religious groups believe). One good thing about having a personal study of God’s Word (with the aid of the Holy Spirit, and discussion with Spirit-filled people), is that one can easily detect if an interpretation is not in line with Scriptures. There may still be some minor “disputable matters” left among the evangelical lot, but extending God’s love and grace to each other should keep the bond of peace. And the same love and peace should draw in those who may be farther away from the truth. God bless.

If salvific doctrine is not in view or in disagreement then we can have a healthy Bible Study but if any basic doctrine that will hinder a person from the truth which will keep them from salvation because of false doctrine then you must expose that person for what they teach.
The Jehovah Witnesses believe that Jesus is not God and believe that He is only an angle which that doctrine will keep a people lost and they have a Bible translation that they have changed to make Jesus a god instead of the God.

I would agree with you only if a true Christian is reading scripture every day and praying to the Lord for understanding or else he can be deceived for a short time until the Lord brings him back.
I met a guy back in Florida that was a Baptist and had a discussion with a Jehovah Witness who got him with a verse that he wasn’t aware of and convinced him that Jesus indeed was created and that Baptist apostatized and became a Jehovah Witness.
That’s why I’m always reading and seeking the Lord’s face because the enemy will never rest until he tries to destroy your faith.

I’m afraid that even in Christian churches I have heard sermons from the pulpit which were not entirely Biblical (and also bordering on the issue of salvation). You’re right about the need to study God’s Word. If members of the congregation are not studying the Word themselves, it is easy to be swayed into wrong beliefs. Only the Word of God is infallible. But for those who have given their not-so-Biblical sermons, I pray that they would come to know the Word more and more. I also started from knowing little, to a little bit more every time, and I continue because of the grace, kindness, patience, encouragement (and forgiveness when I get it wrong!) extended to me. (It’s just a little mind-boggling because I expect those in leadership to know more–but maybe there are other issues behind that I am not aware of.)

Hello, God’s Warrior good to see you again. A lot of people think it is Jesus because He comes back with an army riding on a white horse to defeat the antichrist and some assume that Jesus must be the one mentioned in the first seal since another figure comes riding a white horse as well. I’m glad that my study helped you as it did me. Glory to Jesus who opens up our mind to understand His Word.
